So for the life of me, I just can't seem to get into K-Pop at all. Seeing how popular it is and how people seemingly lose their minds over it, I feel like I should at least try and understand it a bit better if possible and then to maybe give the genre a second chance. So why is K-Pop so popular now and what is the appeal of it?

Idk, beats and rhythm I guess or maybe they want some B2K feel. I prefer classic western music like Rusty Cage or something.

They're mass produced Disney stars.

Kpop is aesthetically pleasing. There's a lot put into music video production, they select people who have stardom quality and put them into groups (whatever if they're good looking, talented, mostly good looking and etc.) and have catchy songs.

Maybe they cannot understand the lyrics and they enjoy the tune. That being said, you would want to avoid doing that lest you end up with Robin Thicke's Blurred Lines of Consent lash back.

It is a tool of war to weaken the North Korea morale level.

No idea. People just have different tastes I suppose.

I like it for a number of reasons!

One, I tend to like songs in languages other than English, and I particularly like Korean and think it sounds amazing with music. Two, I enjoy the MVs paired with the songs. The choreography and setting is very much appreciated by me as a dancer and figure skater who's obsessed with beautiful choreography, costumes, and so on. Three, I really like South Korea in general. It's really beautiful over there (if you ever get the chance to go, I recommend doing so!) and it's a great place to check out, especially if you just visited Japan.

Overall it's not everyone's cup of tea, but a really good group (or soloist) makes it easy to get attached.

We all have different tastes and there are things that are and aren't palatable to all of us.

I think it's because fans can look into the lives of kpop idols and there is so much vido content that you can feel like you know them. That is probably one of the draws. Many people who like/don't mind the music but aren't hardcore fans yet, probably aren't on the level of "knowing" the members/idols (as much as one can know). I also think it's a kind of escapism that many people like. Also, kpop is made of beautiful people.

If you don't like it, then you don't like it. There's no point in forcing yourself to like something. That said, I love K-pop haha. Main reason is escapism and it helps me to relax. It's a good distraction from all the negativity and overthinking in my brain.

I find the music really catchy for some reason and I like how it sounds. But yeah everyone has different tastes so if you don't like it you shouldn't force yourself to like it. I agree with adrianc0 if you don't like it, then you don't like it. It's as simple as that but that's nice that you want to have an open mind.
