don't bother, politically charged people will find a way to bring politics into anything

you'll start some thread titled "what did you eat for breakfast today?" and three pages later someone will be explaining to everyone why meat is murder or something

That is not going to help. I often see people bring politics into threads and topics that have nothing to do with it. Granted, both sides of the political spectrum are responsible for that, but for reasons that I cannot even begin to fathom, some conservatives on CR are of the opinion that there is a liberal world conspiracy that is attempting to silence and destroy everything that has to do with the concept of conservatism. Such conspiracy theories often go hand in hand with the vehement denial of science and facts in general.

There is a liberal world conspiracy that is attempting to silence and destroy conservatism, except I'm a liberal, it doesn't stop with conservatism, and it isn't a conspiracy because it's occurring quite openly.

Also, I think I just proved my own point.

Well liberals have told us that we are destroying the liberal international order. Are you saying that Biden and those fighting for a liberal international order aren't really doing it and are just doing something else?

Biden even promoted it: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=VrJFznxm11k

"should there be a separate topic category for politics?"

Yes.

In fact, there should have been one many months ago before the more casual GD forumers were driven away.

It won't happen because CR doesn't care about its forums. Their last true community manager quit in 2015 right after he merged general with extended discussion to see how it would work out (spoiler: its not great). No one else has stepped into that position in the last two years aside from some support leads who ignore all goings on in the forums.

It would be a good idea for a separate section since it seems like every third topic has something to do with politics(not that its a bad thing, politically active people are the best).

I don't agree with the "hide topics" feature you want though, that would enable too many people to just hide everything triggering their feelings, and forums exist to share opinions and perspectives, even the ones you don't agree with. Otherwise we'd just have a bunch of snowflakes all thinking only of their own perspective and not widening their horiz.. wait.

I doubt "liberal international order" means what you think it means in Biden's speech. He's referring to the spread of Democracy throughout the world and liberalization of trade across international borders, with the US at the forefront on those policies. Shared international goals of democracy and free-trade are not inherently some nefarious liberal conspiracy to take over the world.

If you want to escape General Discussions then there are Specialty Forums,

general
as an adjective
1. of or relating to all persons or things belonging to a group or category:
a general meeting of the employees.
2. of, relating to, or true of such persons or things in the main, with possible exceptions; common to most; prevalent; usual:
the general mood of the people.
3. not limited to one class, field, product, service, etc.; miscellaneous:
the general public; general science.

...wait, you were doing so well, I almost thumbed up.

I'm assuming you didn't have the attention span to watch the 1 minute video you linked. Or were unable to get past the fact you dont like anything with "world order" in it. It's like an alt-right trigger phrase.
