hello! i have been going to conventions namely fanime con since 2008 and i went to Anime expo in 2003 when I was a kid. Now that i am older I am finally going to Anime Expo other than Fanime Con (which was a great year) Crunchyroll Expo and Sac Anime.

Any tips ? I havent been to the LA area in literal decades and was wondering what are some good places to eat around the con and things to do outside of it. I know there are food trucks but what if i dont want to overpay on food ya know?
any tips will help, Thank you!

I am on the same boat as you! Except that I have never been to a convention before, and I have only cosplayed once. I'm wondering what I should expect/bring, since it will be my first time and I want to get the best out of the experience...

Food trucks or not, you'll pretty much overpay for any food within walking distance of Anime Expo. Though overpriced, I think the convenience outweighs the few extra dollars (if you're looking to spend most of your days in the convention).

What I usually do AX is to have a decent-sized breakfast, pack some energy bars/fruits for lunch, and then have a big dinner. On times when I felt like taking a break from the convention, I would head to Little Tokyo, which is 20-30 minutes by bus, or 10-20 minutes by driving. Little Tokyo has a ton of great restaurant options (tons of ramen joints, mochi/sweets store, etc.), Asian memorabilia, and several Anime stores.

You have a 4 day Pass?
If yes , get your pass on day 0 , in that way you don't lose time the following day.
If you only have 2 day pass, get your pass the day before or you will be stuck in line and waste time on the same day of your pass.

PARKING
Parking gets full fast especially under the convention , so go early in the Morning before 10 am but its better to take the Metro and park it there.

Dealers Hall.
If you are not into getting the first dibs of the Dealer's goodies, just go there 30-40 minutes after they open or after the masses has gone in.So you don't have to deal with the long line.
Don't go in the afternoon, its more crowded .

Scheduled Panels and events.
Check your schedule and plan what you want to attend and check the map for location or else you will be walking back and forth bewteen.
South and West Hall

There be lines everywhere 30 -1 hour before the event .More popular event will fill up even if its in the Petree Hall.

For ticketed seats that you bought, don't fall in line too early, it doesn't matter as long as you are in time for the concert.

Know where the Ticket Center, its in the West Hall .

Bring lots of cash .

Food trucks are outside the South Hall mainly and on the outside between West and South Hall. Bring your own water bottle or sports drinks and some snacks. There is always a line everywhere lol.

Been to AX the past two years, and in terms of planning your time, the #1 thing I recommend you do is check out the schedule on the AX website and app. There are tons of events, guest speakers and panels going on, the app lets you "add" these events to your calender, so browse the schedules and make note which you want to attend. It helps to plan your day around that. Some of the events line up outside before it starts, to look up where the lines are.

For food, try to get a big breakfast in, and bring some snacks that will fill you up. I usually bring energy bars and trail mix nuts. Some mornings I might even buy food to-go and just eat it as a meal in the afternoon, you could do this if you are staying somewhere near good to-go food options, so you dont have to spend time leaving to get food during the middle of the day. They sell food at the con too, it's not always the best but at least you wont go hungry. If you have time to take a break, you can always go downtown or to Japantown or Chinatown to get some food. Using Uber/Lyft to get around is pretty useful in LA.

Definitely bring a water bottle that you can fill up. Stay hydrated! Summer in LA is no joke sometimes.
