Post Reply As cliche as this sounds: What would you do if the world were thrown into a zombie apocalypse?

To be honest, I say that I would do all this heroic stuff but in reality I would probably hide under my bed and cry lmao. I'd maybe try to flee as well to wherever the 'safe' point is.

I live in a community rich in hunters.

What you call "Zombie Apocalypse", we call "Target Practice".

Probably seduce them so that I can use the power of love to bring them back to life.

That, or move to a city and make roof villages. Assuming these are standard zombies, blocking the stairways should be enough to keep them out.

If I were in a world that was a zombie apocalypse, statistically speaking, the vast majority of us would have to be infected for it to be any kind of a real danger (even 1% of the population surviving would make it a joke, given that zombies are not intelligent, to repopulate and survive in time).

So I would probably die.

If I survived, I would try to get the thousands of miles away from where I am back up to my home in Alaska. This would probably take a few months or a couple of years, depending on access to vehicles, and I'm assuming that the roads would be entirely unsafe or blocked during an apocalypse. I would gather news, gather survivors, and slowly continue to move north through Canada over land. If we made it within a few months, we wouldn't have to worry about starvation simply by taking the food remaining from the vast majority of humanity suddenly not being consumers.

On the other hand, we would need to actually farm and grow food once we got there. So this would be an obstacle. Still, once we arrived, we would be fairly isolated from zombies given the remote region, and eventually society would rebuild itself in one form or another, and I would just take part in that society. Perhaps the zombies would be killed off or simply starve, and I could rebuild my life.

It goes without saying that I would attempt to find any family members that had survived, as well, but given that it would be unlikely, it would not be the main priority for me in an apocalypse.

---

Really though, if we're talking about zombies that are slow-walking types, they wouldn't ever be a threat, and I could simply stay in the city I am in until they had all been killed off. If we're talking about the running types, then things would be a bit more dangerous, but still not to an extreme degree, given that I could arm myself and work together with other people to fight off something like that.

If the zombies were intelligent in any way close to human intelligence, on the other hand, then nothing I could do would be of much worth. If a zombie could figure out how to operate firearms for example, or they had super-strength past a certain degree, survival would be nearly impossible except for a tiny portion of humanity for long. Since they would simply starve us out, and organize attacks, and the few humans which survived would be living in bunkers with their food supplies, eventually found over the years and finished off as the zombies took over the earth.

I'd probably wait a few days for most of the zombies to be killed before I go to search for food.

Well I do have armor and a lot of real weapons. Zombies can't bite through chainmail so I can't get infected. At this point its just a matter of if I can fight them 1v1 or 2v1 or if it's an entire street of them that I need molotov's for.

Depends on the zombie. Some of them if their blood touches your skin, you are infected. Some take just saliva. Maybe the virus is airborne? What if the virus comes from fleas?

Chainmail and a longsword will stop none of these.

To respond to OP. I would most likely die somewhat early. My weapon knowledge is pretty much useless for zombies. My only idea would to be move somewhere very, very cold. I have a sailboat. Maybe I could sail to Antarctica. Dead flesh will freeze easily in cold climates, so I would be safe there.

If you want a great book to read about this stuff, World War Z. My favorite zombie apocalypse book. Very well thought out and incredibly well written.

Obnoxiously enough; I've thought about this a lot over the years.

I have a 10 year plan, longer then any president we would have to deal with.

Day 0-200: Gather highly concentrated nutrients. Health food stores, and grocery stores with supplements and multi-vitamins, because no one wants scurvy. Lots and lots of liquor. I mean lots. Beer, hard liquor, and other things, mostly for antiseptics and chemical solvency. If you have enough of it you can run vehicles too.

Year 1: Secure and defend a small communications arrangement and highly specialized subsistence base.
Year 2: Find other survivors and start planning long distance excursions.
Year 3: Start clearing zombies from local area with vengeance.
Year 4: Upgrade all equipment for the long haul.
Year 5: Aerial combat drones to shoot zombies from the air, and drop supplies.
Year 6: Complete establishment of operations base and other forms of technology, possibly satellites.
Year 7: Find money and burn it. Start reaching out to other survivor communities to form alliances.
Year 8: Secret underground bunker and militarized establishment while continuing to organize logistics and alliances.
Year 9: Start global telecommunications for other survivors. Find out if other nations still exist.
Year 10: Settle in for a long zombie apocalypse and find out if anyone has any better ideas. Mostly aerial bomb and shoot hordes at this stage.

I did some minor planning once, when I saw some really shady news story on TV; so if it seems like I'm over prepared, I probably am.

First thing, pray that my friend and her husband are alive still, they are my best chance at not dying.

If not dead, hope that they can teach me to survive out in the boonies.

If not, pray that my downtown public library is not so infested that I can't access the books that I need. If it is, I'll try to steal my zombified friends books, but I seriously don't want to face 4 ankle biters and a 6 foot 6 zombie in a very small space, not to mention any possible zombie guinea pigs, cats, birds or hell forbid....
a zombie tarantula.

Worst comes to worst, I'll raid a couple out of sight grocery stores, and hike out of town into a smaller pop town, and keep restocking and moving, particularly upstream from my local river till I'm past the 'too polluted to drink' point.

Odds of survival, easily less then 10%

It depends on what the zombies were like and how fast and aggressive they were.

If they were like something out of World War Z then I too will be eating brains before nightfall.

If they were more like the zombies out of Return Of The Living Dead or 24 Days later or the WALKING DEAD and I had some advance warning before it all went down, say a couple of hours, this is the plan...

Grab all the guns, grab up ALL the ammo.
Grab whatever tinned food and Bottled Water I keep around, get it in the 4WD and get the hell out of dodge.

I live in Aus, I would head inland and get up a base camp in the remote part of the country, probably in one of the abandoned homesteads out way past Bourke/Wanarring near the NSW/QLD border fence.

The part of Aus that is so empty of people they did nuclear testing back there in the 1950's.

There are a lot of old artesian wells out there that still supply drinkable water that you can access with a hose and a hand pump if you know what your doing.

On the way I would break into a chemist and grab medical supplies and supplements.

There is PLENTY of game, rabbit, kangaroo, feral pig, so meat would not be an issue.

If I get through the first 48hrs when things go to complete dog shit then I should be OK, at least in the short term.
