At home, getting ready for school. My parents wouldn't let me look at the TV.

As luck would have it, on 9/11 of the year 2000, I had started a web comic which was starting to get a small audience. So on 9/11 of 2001, I was writing a big blowout anniversary special series about the private investigator Johnson Package rescuing a gay monkey in a basket from the Tower of Infinite Sorrow, and I thought "it would be so funny if the Tower of Infinite Sorrow was one of the World Trade Center towers and he had to figure out which tower was which but they had door knockers like the ones in Labyrinth on them, and one always lied and one always told the truth so he would need David Bowie's help and then I could do a bunch of package jokes."

So I did a Google image search for the world trade center, and the first plane had just hit a few minutes earlier, and it was totally not funny at all.

Now, granted, it's kind of shitty to have your web comic fold up and die because of its unfortunate anniversary... but then there's my Egyptian Muslim friend Omar and his rather unfortunate birthday. He can basically never, ever, ever celebrate it in public again.

I was at home. When I saw it, I knew that America was going to war again after a long lethargy.

I was in Middle School, 8th grade to be exact, first period, history, and the image that stood out to me was my teacher crying her eyes out. It hit her harder than anyone in class that day.

We were in Germany living on a military base and were scared to death. Security for our installations at that time was really lax because of low threat. All the U.S. people living off the installation had to come on post and live in the gym for several weeks. We were really scared! My dad's unit was mobilized into a defense unit for the perimeter.

The Germans set up a shrine at our front gate and left all kinds of candles and said prayers every night for about a month. Some of my dad's troops were beat up by some Middle Eastern immigrants the second day after the attack. This was right after we all had to go to a big speech from his commanding officer about not taking revenge for the attacks.

I remember being scared and the support from the Germans...I remember my Dad feeling like he failed the U.S. because he could not do anything at the time. Mom was worried Dad would have to deploy right away and leave us in Germany by ourselves.

Doesn't feel like it was a long time ago. I was really young when it happened.

At home, watching it unfold in horror on TV. I'd been chatting online with a couple of friends mid gaming when confused word started going around online. It sounded like a terrible joke at first then slowly sunk in the more info hit. Turned on the TV, turned off the computer and watched. Then cried.

I was five at the time, and likely at preschool or home. I don't think I was in first grade at the time (I skipped kindergarten), but I guess it's possible? I didn't fully understand what was going on when I saw the news, what five year old really would? I remember seeing people jumping from the tower and thinking that it was "paper or dolls or something".

I was in Mr. Claflin's 7th grade science class. I remember him answering the school phone and then turning on the television in the room. I was pretty disassociated as a kid so I honestly didn't even understand or really care what was going on. I just wanted to go home and watch Dragon Ball Z.

I was on a high school trip in a forest resort kind of a thing, but was in a cafeteria with a TV at the time, just to see the "urgent news" broadcast. And the reaction was "Whoa..." because it was, obviously, pretty big and unprecedented. Then I called my father, because as it so happened, he was on a work trip in NY at the time (Not the towers, just the city), but all he saw was broken window and what they perceived as an eartquake, despite being quite far away from the site/s.

Not much of a story, but hey, you asked.

I was in Elementary school at the time. I didn't hear about it until late in the day. I was at the school's after-school day care program, playing with a friend while waiting for my dad to pick me up. I remember my friend's dad came and picked him up really early, which bothered me because with him gone, I wasn't sure how I was gonna entertain myself until my dad arrived. I was also curious because like I said, he was really early. So I asked him why he'd come so soon, and he told me about the attacks. I'd been to New York and gone up the WTC only a month or two earlier, so I didn't believe him at the time. Not until later on when my dad picked me up and told me about it. That sucked.

I was trading my car in at the dealership when i went to the lobby i saw most gathered around the tv. that's how i found out.
I lost my cousin a fireman and a friend that day so all this stuff going on in England is like a punch in the gut.
