So apparently Runescape decided to have a pride event without asking the community

dysphoria is not the source of pride

it is recognized by the dsm but it is not listed as illness nor is it treated as such

you can act smug & pretend you're right about it all you want but just like every other LGBT related issue it's going to progressively become more and more mainstream and there is genuinely nothing you can do about it

The World Health Organization lists transsexualism as a mental illness. It's called Gender Identity Disorder. Do you acknowledge the fact that these are medically recognized mental disorders?

http://apps.who.int/classifications/icd10/browse/2016/en#/F64
BTW, the DSM is written by the APA, whose presidents have publicly acknowledged that the APA puts politics ahead of science. It's actually the only ostensibly medical organization to be censured by Congress for being a bunch of wack-jobs.

The ICD is used by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the National Center for Health Statistics, and indirectly by you. Since 1999, the ICD 10 has been used on all death certificates, by law. It's used by all hospitals in the USA, general or psychiatric. It's used by all medical insurance providers, medical recording software, and, by law, all in-patient medical reporting. It's used, directly or indirectly, by literally everyone in the USA.

Do you recognize, along with literally the rest of the medical world, that you're promoting the normalization and celebration of an illness? In mental terms, it's like promoting the pride and mainstreaming of cancer. Do you recognize this?

Yes, because wanting to change your gender is so similar to randomly developing cancer and dying.

While I understand gamers wanting to keep politics out of their games and so forth (as well as being pissed that there wasn't a poll for this pride event), at the same time I do think they were over-reacting. It's not like they were being forced to participate. They could have stayed away from the area that it was being held at or chosen not to logged in that day. Not to mention that in can be argued that dressing like KKK members is a form of irony/hypocrisy (since doing something like that is also a form of politics).

Go for it. If the medical technology exists and you can get the medical procedure then I wouldn't stop you from doing what you want to your own body.

Funnily enough I've imagined a future where people could get medical procedures to turn into all sorts of stuff like dragons and angels and I'm pretty fine with a future like that because it seems like a future with many more freedoms, possibilities, and ways to experience life.

What kind of logic is that? Nobody wants things forced on them in video games, people just want to play games and not have anything shoved down their throats. It's not over-reacting. It's an RPG game btw, what if someone had to go to the area where the event was being held, while they were being on a quest or something? Not logging in that day? So, tell people not to play their favorite game because something was shoved in their face, cool logic there. And the robes aren't even kkk robes, it's just a white robe with a hat.

When you end up "invading" someone's space in a way that intrudes on what they consider an "escape" from the world of politics, politically correctness, and "social norms" you risk that person becoming upset (even if irrational or "overreacting"). Gaming is what many people use as a distraction from what is now a never-ending conquest of politics (even here, on an anime streaming site's forums - we're bombarded with political threads on a seemingly endless array). MMORPGs are especially into this realm. In a niche/small community like what's left in Runescape, doing something like this (no matter how innocent) without a poll or some type of communication was bound to have such a drastic response.

Fucking hilarious, had a great time reading the subreddit. Never change humans, never change.

One thing you should probably take note of is that you're kind of taking ICD-10 out of context. You're allowing the mere word to obfuscate the reason why F64.0 ("transsexualism") exists as a clinical classification. It isn't indicating that being transsexual is the actual mental illness itself; rather, the dysphoria that comes from being transsexual. This includes depression, anxiety, stress, sexual dysfunction, and other psychiatric issues that are aspects of dysphoria.

In other words, the attempt at being "normal" by your definition is what's being considered the mental illness for someone who has such dysphoria from their gender identity issue(s). Of course, dysphoria can also come from the "crash" from a psychedelic trip, or how some people feel when crashing from a caffeine/sugar high (to lower, temporary levels). Simply because the term you're looking for is in the ICD-10 doesn't mean that it, in and of itself, is the mental illness.

It's easier just to say, "I think those who are homosexual or transsexual are mentally ill and that's my personal opinion." instead of attempting to take a medical book out of context without any understanding as to how or why these medical classifications exist.
