Not sure how i feel about this because on one hand the memes were offensive and the school has every right to kick people out (esspecialy if they are related to the school as giving them a bad name isn't ok)
but on the other hand no matter how sick a joke is like that i don't think kicking them is the best thing infact i'm kinda dissapointed but then i go back to point 1 and it makes sense.
VERY conflicted though i did like the segment where they said "it makes you question their morality" ...haha people on /r/dankmemes have questionable morality when it comes to jokes so it's to be expected...making fun of tragedies isn't new there are good arguments on both sides as to why it should be allowed or shouldn't.
I expect a LOT of Drama to come from this >.<

Speaking to some people who aren't into memes and stuff especially edgy ones the replies i got were more or less if this was a public university then they would be annoyed but since it's private it's fine.

I honestly can highly agree to that i mean i'm against censorship and shit but in this case i think they were well within their rights.

I think the problem is that they did it under Harvard's name in a Facebook group. Harvard University is a private institution and there are plenty other high achieving students with a sense of professionalism that would gladly take those student's places.

I say good on Harvard for avoiding some immature brats that don't understand the consequences of what they put out online--hint--it also applies to one's career.

I've retitled the thread because this wasn't Harvard kicking out students who were already attending/enrolled. They were taking back admissions offers that had been accepted.

Welcome to the real world, kids. In the real world, blatantly violating society's norms in the public space reflects on your moral character, causing people to question if they want to be connected to you. This includes how you are judged by potential/current employers, who will question your ability to act professional when they realize you have partaken in indecent behavior.

Despite claims to the contrary, the internet is not an exception to this rule.

Dumb asses. They knew the terms going in and yet they said stupid shit on social media. They got what they derserved.

Reguardless of your social or political position. What you post online lives and follows you forever even if you delete it. Employers will research your online statements so beware.

Good now these students can go to a GOOD university instead of a joke of one.

Yeah it is really unproffesional to use the name of a place your going to study or work at in relation to jokes :/
Honestly if they really wanted to make those jokes they should of A. Not used the Harvard name B. Not used their real names

Seems extreme to me. Childish behavior, sure, but it's not behavior that's actually hurting anyone, so it doesn't warrant this level of consequence.

Eh, seems like a dumb reason to deny admission to someone because of things they've said and done privately, but it's their institution and if they want to be snobbish about who they want to admit into the school then let them.

They were told that being shitheads could affect their admission. They proceeded to be shitheads.

Seems pretty open and shut.

This isn't a matter of censorship or free speech.

What Facebook should be seen as is your own personal highway billboard which everyone can see while they're passing by on the internet.

If you wouldn't want that up there on Highway I-95 for all to see, don't post it. Businesses can and will judge your professionalism by how stupid you treat your highway billboard.
