Hi everyone,

For my dissertation, I've decided to research general opinions on English dubs of anime. Believe it or not, there are some articles and stuff on anime but none actually ask the viewers what they think. Which is what I want to change, with the hope of finding a way to improve English dubs in the future. Love them or hate them, I want your thoughts!

The survey is below, if you have any questions feel free to message me.

Thanks in advance! :)

I filled it out.

One thing though, you're not likely to get an accurate sample from a site that specializes in one or the other.

Thank you :)

Don't worry I know, I have been posting this in a few different places. I need quite a few responses so it doesn't matter too much. Thanks for the advice though!

Filled it out. Very much on the negative side towards dubs personally.

Thanks for filling it out :)

Yep ;), studying at Edo University.

In all seriousness, Music and Sound Production (on the side of this I'm trying to dub an anime, which is a lot harder than I expected...), as I haven't done much sound production side of it I made it the focus of my project.

Sean Chiplock did an AMA on Reddit, where he went into, amongst other things, voice acting and the challenges facing dubbing actors.

Check out https://www.reddit.com/r/JRPG/comments/5uuada/hey_jrpg_im_the_voice_of_rean_schwarzer_in_trails

Strongly recommend reading it, as it's the most insightful thing I've seen in a long time.

This is really good~

....... can I just say, though... the point about how it shouldn't matter how voice actors look, the performance should be the only thing that matters... as much as I love hot voice actors, that's probably true, but I just wanted to point out that most sub fans agree with that even more than I do, but then still say that part of why they prefer the Japanese dubs is because the seiyuu are hot.

................ seiyuu are mostly hot, though. But a) it shouldn't matter, so that's not a good thing about Japan's industry, and b) so are several English voice actors.

Oh this sounds interesting, thanks! This will help boost the background research as i have a translator interview that covers issues and a production one but no actors :)

Again, thanks everyone for filling it out!
