I guess that can work. But I rather still defend myself unless the person has a weapon of some sort.

Hit me, I hit back.

Hurt me, I hurt back a minimum of tenfold. I don't care if the person hurting me gets completely incapacitated or injured, but I have no remorse reciprocating any kind of pain they've attempted to put on me.

Inflicting verbal or emotional pain is a little more complex, but if the person inflicting it against me is not someone I have to deal with at a later time, or I am not in any way closely associated with them, I will take it upon myself to serve them up the same "pleasantries" they've offered to me, in a variety of angles - en masse.

If you really care for your safety, of self defense, evade a fight altogether unless absolutely necessary, and only fight as long as you have to, which should be as little time as possible for you to make an escape. If someone is attacking you, find the quickest way to get away. Usually running and calling for help (and calling the police) that some lunatic is attacking you loud enough that the next 5 blocks can hear you is the best way to get someone to give up. If you need an opening, throw something at their face, kick them in the shin/crotch, poke their eyes out, bite them. The goal isn't some chauvinistic silliness to prove how tough you are via getting into a fist fight with someone who has no control over themselves, it's about your safety, it's about getting away from a threat to your well being that has no right to be threatening you.

It honestly alarms me how many on here think their so ready to fight someone to be honest. Then again, perhaps I shouldn't be...

Ummm. Haven't been in a scuffle since high school. Have sho-dan in karate and been doing Brazilian jujitsu go five years. If someone seriously attacked me I'd probably fight back and try to submit him to diffuse the situation. I suppose it depends on the situation.I don't want to hurt anyone but I believe Orwell was correct when he said those who abjure violence may only do so because others are committing it on their behalf

This is good advice for a real threat.

That last bit you're describing is what we call Pompous Peacock Syndrome

I haven't been in a physical altercation in 20 years. I honestly wouldn't know how I would react since it would take a lot to push me to throw a swing. I guess it would just depend on the situation.

Example: If I'm at work and someone throws a punch at me, I might just let them hit me so they could get them fired. My work has zero tolerance for that stuff.

An altercation if I'm out with my family, you better believe I'll fight like a wild animal.

With your user name it's anathema for you to not say you're the Protector of Mother Russia's Skies and you would use the Ultimate Atomic Buster

If you're referring to the "Red Cyclone" of Street Fighter then my username is spelled incorrectly.

Well of course; the only true spelling uses the Cyrillic alphabet

Yeah but then a jujitsu guy takes you to the ground and robs you of the distance you need to strike. All those years of training made worthless is a few short moments.

Depends, if they hit me hard and they deliberately did it, especially if its a stranger I'll return the favor of course.
I used to be a pacifist, but when kids started picking on me in middle school for a while I eventually started to fight back to get people to stop screwing with me.
I typically try to avoid violence, but if I must resort to it I don't half-ass it either.

Thank you for that paraphrase of Mike Tyson: everyone has a plan until they get hit in the face.

But that's the whole point. Once you're in the clinch then your punches to the face can't really do much. There's a reason why BJJ dominates boxing in an octagon.

To be fair ring fighting isn't a good metric to gauge a street fight. You think pulling guard in a street fight is a good idea?
Anything is a weapon and its fair game, no rules with means attacks you typically don't witness in MMA are in play. Plus BJJ is sort useless against more than 1 enemy. Go to the ground 1v1 sure it might work, but if the idiot you are fighting has lackies to beat the daylights out of you while you are on the ground, well good luck with that.

You're welcome.

You know what dominates outside the octagon? Running.
