Actually they have been cracking down on blasphemy for quite awhile now. This is just the first death sentence involving social media.

"There have been at least 71 people murdered in connection with blasphemy allegations in Pakistan since 1990, according to an Al Jazeera tally."

"Blasphemy is a highly sensitive topic in Muslim-majority Pakistan, where insulting the Prophet Muhammad is a capital crime for which dozens are sitting on death row"

Makes you appreciate living in a place with free speech, though that seems to be increasingly strained. At least it's not the government going after people with differences in opinion.

There is no mechanism in US law by which a foreign law can be enshrined or take precedent. There is nothing to resist.

And red, seriously? Give your head a shake. You can't complain about how mean/intolerant "liberals" are in other threads than say shit like this. Its not just hypocritical, but that one in particular is really childish.

Well, that is sad. As someone mentioned in this thread, such cases have not recently emerged -- they have been an issue in Pakistan for a while now. I am unfamiliar with details, but sentencing someone for insulting an important figure in Islam is ridiculous.

I advise against trying to explain the purpose and jurisdiction of the sharia courts that the two of them are talking about. A quick Google search can provide proper results and explanations to avoid misunderstandings, but that would go against the fear-mongering agenda that some people constantly attempt to spread on Crunchyroll.

I know, but arggh. It's really hard to sit there day in and day out and watch people steadfastly refuse to, you know, learn.
