I enjoy walking barefoot through my house, shoes stay at the door.

I couldn't imagine people wearing shoes in the house. Maybe it's a cultural thing? I don't know anyone who does that.

Well, Japan is OBSESSED with the idea that Americans Are Selfish, Insensitive Pigs Enough To Wear Shoes In the House.

The War? The bomb? Christianity? Admiral Perry? Bush Sr. vomiting on the PM? Losing the 80's "Economic War" they thought they were going to win?
Uh-uh: Bring out a Japanese bugaboo against America, and sooner or later, it will always end up as the Shoe thing. ALWAYS.

(Me, I can't remember ever wearing shoes in the house longer than it took to get to the bedroom to take them off and kick back in socks.
Until we got that new house with the polished hardwood floors, and then even tracking anything out of the mud-room onto them was punishable by death...)

Nope.

Please take your shoes off at the door.

To be honest., If I'm not at home I wear doc martens. Most comfortable boots ever.

No, and guest also have to take off their shoes.

Your shoes are filthy from the outside, then you bring that filth inside on the floor. It's not very hygienic.

No shoes in this house either-- Yes. I'm an American (Phoenix Arizona).

I don't want people to bring shit from outside inside the house. It's a sanitary issue not a culture thing imo.

I don't want the floor of my house to be like the floor of a public bathroom. If you have kids, do they crawl on that same floor too ??

just don't bring it in the house

i want to do something similar to this with my house... a place to put shoes in the house so people will not afraid of them being stolen and don't have to worry about them bringing craps in the house..

that's a lot of digging. You have to cut through the tile/hardwood you have and then dig down.. that's a lot of work!! just put in security gates at the front. It's cheaper and you don't have to destroy anything

I would not leave any expensive shoes outside in the Arizona heat though-- 110-118 degree heat can destroy them pretty easily (even if you put them in the shade)

Yes, if the floor is filthy, or when I worry about fire ants and other biting/stinging critters.
