Various shmups games like touhou, cave games, and crimzon clover. I also have a hard time with God Hand. Edit: SMT Nocturne was also pretty hard

Besides some obvious games like Battletoads and Dark Souls I remember Zelda II: Adventures of Link giving me a hard time as a kid. Death Mountain always gave me trouble. Then I tried playing it as an adult and while it gave me some difficulty I managed to beat it.

SMT3: Nocturne was probably the hardest game I beat. And I did everything in that game, got the true ending and all the best demons.

Fire Emblem : Awakening

Lol that's crazy

I don't have any memory of an all time hardest but recent memory would have to be Digital Devil Saga

How is that crazy? Lol

Because Awakening is easy

I mean its not literally the hardest game ive ever played, but I tried to do a no death run my first time playing it this week(or any FE) and kept having to start battles over. I stopped playing at chapter 17. The gameplay is easy but one slip up and you have to start over. Games with permadeath are generally the ones that frustrate me the most. Dark Souls might technically be harder for instamce but it doesnt punish players for dying . Shadows of Valentia is WAYYY easier than Awakening. I focus on my mistakes too much too, so the game feels harder than it is.

Oh yeah a no death run would make it harder depending on the difficulty. Awakening below Lunatic/Lunatic+ is still heavily balanced towards the player though. It's probably the most accessible Fire Emblem of all time with the OP stat growths and the pair up mechanic

..the difficulty was normal. I suppose i just need to "get good" xD

Yeah the mechanics do make it a lot easier.

Dark Souls. Granted, I had no motivation to git gud, so this is still somewhat in question
Touhou

And any PvP game gets a ? rating dependent on exactly who you're playing

Dark Souls for sure dude.

They all gave me a run for my money.

That's one unforgiving game.
Dark Souls is easy as hell to me. It's all about timing. I used to play Mortal Kombat and Kirby Superstars, I know all about how to get down timing based on movement and sounds.

Super Meat Boy is probably the hardest recent game I've played.
It took a few years for me to get proficient at Bubble Bobble as a kid, though.

Most of the games you guys mentioned are nothing compared to Shinobi or Contra: Shattered Soldier.
