Good service, ive been impressed - they're a far better option as your "second sub" than Funimation are esp if your from UK.

They have one dub I’ve been looking for that I can’t find anywhere else. That’s great and all, but I doubt it’s cash worthy on my part.

I'm intrigued by Hidive's catalog. Though I'm somewhat waiting to see if they'll develop an app for tablets/smartphones.

I tried it out yesterday. Nice to see OVA's , uncensored versions of shows that were still the censored broadcast versions on The Anime Network, and more dubs.

To Love Ru Darkness 2 is still missing the final 2 episodes, however.

The bit before each episode reminds me of Adult Swim.

Almost everything marked "DUBBED" also has the subtitled version available. The exceptions would be some relatively old titles like GetBackers.

Found another dub-only title: Princess Tutu.

Having no mobile app makes it awkward, but it does play fine in Silk Browser on my 2015 Fire tablet and in Chrome on my Android phone. The benefit is that when I'm using bad wifi, I can manually lower the resolution on the fly, whereas I'm not aware of any way to do that in the CR mobile app (and I can't watch CR in a browser on my Fire... haven't tried to on the phone, it's my first cell phone and I only got it recently). Unfortunately the Sentai shows in my PTW that are on CR are probably all shows I'd want to watch in HD, but it's nice to have the option.

Automatic bookmarking seems reliable so far. Queue management is still poor, with no dedicated queue page and seemingly no way to reorganize it, but that doesn't bother me since I've got the catalog titles I plan to watch there sorted into categories in a Gmail draft, and I've decided to only watch one show per category at a time.

Regarding the short, but loud and annoying, branding title card clips that play every time you start a video (even on resuming), I saw a user comment on the site saying they can be removed with an ad blocker. I might try that. (I'm paying for my subscription, so there aren't any actual ads to block.)

I'm looking forward to watching the Monster Musume dub. I watched the opening scene yesterday, Miia sounds great.

While I am curious about the service, I'm pretty taking a wait and see approach since I'll only subscribe to a service that's available on platforms that I currently use. In other words, if there isn't an app available for PS4, Roku or Amazon Fire, then it's pretty much a no-go. I'll have to make due with CrunchyRoll, Funimation, Prime, Hulu and Netflix.

One lesson I learned today was that when a series is marked "DUBBED", one should check that that all the episodes are currently available dubbed (which doesn't seem possible without at least starting to play the last episode).

This was brought to my attention when I decided to re-watch Gate in dubbed format, and suddenly found myself with only the Japanese language version at episode 7. A bit of quick searching turned up that they are adding the dubbed episodes at a pace of one per week.

So much for my marathon before heading back to work tomorrow.

It makes sense, given that that if one looks closely, they actually say "ad" in one corner (lower left in the example below):

Okay, yeah, that is how the MonMusu announcement made it sound - that dub release started in July. It seems to be up through episode 4 right now, so it's in sync with the summer season.

I was clicking around to check how many episodes had English available, and ran into several problems:

- After I clicked on the last episode, when I went back to the first episodes the dub was unavailable. This persisted even after I left the page and came back from the homepage. I was able to get the dub option back via the Dubs page.
- When I clicked on Episode 5 (while logged in of course), I got a "it's time to sign up for a free trial" popup. Apparently this is what happens when you try to start a dub on an episode that doesn't have it yet.
- All that clicking around confused the site and triggered a "You've maxed out your available screens" popup, which blocked me from watching any MonMusu episode at all. But I was able to leave and start Hidamari Sketch, so at least the block didn't last long.
- That popup had a link to https://www.hidive.com/contact which is currently a 404. The Javascript popup Contact link at the bottom of the site seems to work, though.

All of the above are minor issues related to the unfinished state of the site.

One nice thing about TheAnimeNetwork was that its show listings clearly showed the available resolution, and if there wasn't a Japanese audio track available then you could at least tell without starting the show, by opening the dropdown language selector, for example here: http://www.theanimenetwork.com/Watch-Anime/Princess-Tutu

Stumbled upon HIDIVE mostly due to hearing about how the Food Wars dub is going to premiere there before the anime's home release.

So I'm hugely relieved that this is the chosen platform for Sentai Filmworks, and that their dubs are up here. Been trying to seek out their dubs for awhile but haven't been able to put down the cash to get their home releases. So stuff like the dubs for Gatchaman CROWDS (+insight) and Parasyte : the Maxim. So having it all here and not just praying for Netflix or Hulu to pick them up is a boon.

For subscription fees, the initial $3.99 a month is a steal. Especially when compared to the various other streaming services out there. Admittedly, it is a bit weird to wall off stuff like adding a second screen/stream or 1080p resolution behind additional charges is a bit weird...but for an additional $1 charge for each it's not too bad. Even if you add those two charges, it's still cheaper then the other services. So not bad.

Yeah, the main sticking point is that there's no dedicated Queue tab that you can go to. That you're required to go all the way back to the home page to access it. Not bad enough to make me want to not use the service, but still annoying.

Also came across an issue with the dubs, in that the ones with English captions (the type that will translate the various Japanese signage the characters walk by) is that sometimes the captions will just...not pop up. Still need to look into it and see if it's a thing where you have to switch back and forth between the subs and dubs to get the captions back, but we'll see.

So yeah, enjoying using HIDIVE service thus far. They just work out a couple of bugs and I'm sure they'll persist for a long time.

Frankly, I'm hoping that allows them to keep the subscription price low, as neither of those are things I need.

I'm a single person household, so obviously one stream is sufficient. Very little anime is actually produced in 1080p (here's an chart for spring 2017 as an example), so I have no issue watching in 720p. (I actually have 720p as the default here on CR for viewing in the web player).

It also isn't without precedent since Netflix charges $2 less per month for SD only and a single stream, and $2 more per month for UHD and 4 streams instead of 2. (https://www.netflix.com/signup/planform).

$3.99 per month is supposed to be an introductory price, but I'm hoping they'll have enough people pay for the extras that they won't bump it above $4.99 when they go to the final pricing.

Got an advertisement email from Hidive and wondered

"Who in the world are these guys??? ...and how did I get an email from them?"

(In the email it wasn't clear exactly which source, I'm guessing Anime Network)

I looked up "hidive.com" on google and this thread popped up LOL
