since something will always offend someone, i say nothing is off limits. once you start adding limits you have to limit everything.

I have huge issues with jokes that are aimed towards the most vulnerable such as the disabled. Recently saw one of tv making fun out of people who are autistic and referring to them as retards etc. I find it really off putting and makes me feel uncomfortable.

If you can't make a joke without being insensitive, you're not very funny.

Until you reach the dark of comedy, that's when you have to really stop.

When it becomes about crime, then that's going too far.

How far do you think comedy can go?Do you think there's a line you can't cross? Are some subjects too "taboo"to joke about?Do you think today's political climate is changing what it means to cross the line?

Alan Alda said it most memorably and succinctly in Woody Allen's "Crimes & Misdemeanors", granting it immortality into the pantheon of stand-up-comic mantras:

(Granted, he was playing a loathsome jerk, but he was also correct. About the "Bends" thing, that is, not about Seth MacFarlane dying onstage with the Lincoln joke at the Oscars.)

If this whole thread is trying to pitch a Tan-Trump at Johnny Depp's Lincoln/Booth joke, that's a good example of what "Breaks":
Another standup comedy mantra is "Nothing kills the joke faster than the comic's own bloodthirsty desire to tell it."

What passes as practical jokes nowadays are usually stupid, alongside most comedy in the vein of Sacha Baron Cohen's Borat, which should be left to the professionals.

I don't think topics are taboo, but more or less "acts" that greatly inconveniences a person, or could possibly kill them. Tossing a firecracker into your best friend's bedroom that leads to her being burned to death? No, telling your child he has cancer and is going to die? No.

The whole Millennial "anger" of the prank culture--which, we sometimes forget, all started back when Ashton Kutcher's galactic ego wanted to take itself out on other "uppity" actors daring embarrass him by being in the same profession--seems to forget why Allen Funt started "Candid Camera" to begin with:

Funt staged his harmless pranks for anonymous passersby, and wanted us to see the reactions that we might have, as a sort of psychological test experiment with funny timing.

...Oh, and then he asked his victims to "Smile".

They will hold up a decapitated Trump's head, doing a play about assassinating Trump and insulting the Christianity/Christians etc..

there's no limit to how far comedy can go!!! It's obvious! or is it?

so here's the challenge to the comedians/celebrities and their worshipers

hold up a decapitated Muhammad the prophet's head or do a play about assassinating Muhammad and insulting Isam/Muslims

I assume they will not..:/ don't have the gut .... when you insult people who will likely to kill you in return they will hesitate and will never dare go that far... but against those who will tolerate such behavior/insults.. like spoiled brats.. they will continue on and on

This is like dealing with bullies.. they will never stop when the victim just let it go but when they got too far and the victim just snapped and beat the crap out of them.. when lying on the ground in pain bleeding from the nose.. that's when they realized that they were messing with the wrong person..

it's puberty years all over again!! so let's the battle of the CULTS and WORSHIPERS continue
