Schools in the UK wear uniforms. In the moment we're having a heat wave and some schools have children coming in shorts. This particular school did not have shorts as part of their uniform and denied boys' request to wear shorts now. In protest they came dressed in the school uniform but in skirts.

Some 30 boys have worn skirts to school in protest at being told they were not allowed to wear shorts.
The pupils from ISCA Academy in Exeter asked permission to modify their uniform because of the hot weather.
One of the boys who took part in the protest said: "We're not allowed to wear shorts, and I'm not sitting in trousers all day, it's a bit hot."

They aren't the only ones doing this.

Ridiculous that they had to resort to that in the first place. But i didn't know that heat waves existed in the U.K??

There's an all girls school in my town that had the opposite issue. They need to have skirts as part of their uniform and that includes winter.

Canadian winter.

School uniforms are fucked up.

Kind of surprising the bus drivers didn't just opt for kilts, but then I guess kilts are made of heavier (and hotter) cloth. Anyway, good on them for not sweating their masculinity, may the cooler heads prevail.

Doesn't matter how hot it is outside, I don't wear shorts. It's pants in public and no pants at home.

So, why not kilts? Make it look like a political statement.

In the UK they call it trousers, pants are underwear so that'd make would you commando at home.

The differences between British English and US English are hilarious sometimes.

Why didn't they wear kilts? Why skirts?

School uniforms are indeed a moronic idea. Way to hurt poor students by shafting them
