interesting.... I'll check out the video

tell me what you think will you ? the guy brought up some valid points

especially all the subsidies

I don't know if you still get tax credits for putting solar panels on your house now a day (Phoenix), so if you pay 30-40K for the panels--- it's not going to be $0 a month like most people think.. the only thing you can do to get $0/month is by going off grid like this guy

The owner of Tetris is living off the grid in Hawaii (PBS Newshour)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BfeFrcL8TIg

the idea of producing your own energy and growing your own food is great-- that is something i want to do in the future as well.. but let's be honest here-- i can't afford these things

i heard solar companies are pulling out of AZ and the ones providing solar panels want you to pay $50/month service fee or something

so currently my house total electricity cost for the year is around $1200 ( $20/month service fee already included)

if i'm putting down 30-40K for the solar panels and having to pay them $50/month ($600 year)

how many years before i can beak even? not to mention the cost of maintenance and repair for these things over the years-- it's monsoon season here in Arizona

This is like that climate change thread i posted in -- where we agreed that consume less and not being wasteful are better changes with immediate impact-- while we continue to find way to become more efficient

keep throwing money at it is not going to convince others and becoming extremists and shoving your idea down their throats' will not help the matter either

just my opinion

anyway, this is an odd time we live in .. turning to comedians to pick which side of a debate we will be on

i saw this video recently-- the guy brought up some valid points

haha, that guy is full of shit. The whole video is deflecting onto Obama instead of actually disputing what Oliver said as false. Literally all he does, completely stupid.

Swimming through AIDS needles > B-but Obama > I am totally baffled as to why coal is bad.

That was as far as I made it. >.>

Man, even Fox dumped this guy? Impressive.

i looked it up and they do get a lot of subsidies. so much for fair competition

installing solar panels is not for everyone-- electricity cost per year for my house is around $970 so it's a waste of money for me. I'll join in when they have a better alternative that are more affordable or the price have to drop a lot lower

btw, have you heard about the border wall ? it's going to be a solar powered border wall this might bring the price of solar panels down and help making it more affordable for most people. I guess we will see

for those who are in Arizona

https://www.srpnet.com/environment/solar/home/solarelectric.aspx
https://www.srpnet.com/prices/home/customergenerated.aspx

it's not $50/month yet but it is true.. don't expect $0/month bill like the staged interviews with owners they have on the news

There's Time of Use (TOU) for solar panel owners as well..

so the only option to pay $0/month after installing your solar panel is going off grid!! the option that is only avaialble to the 1% pretty much

solar powered border ? I have to look it up

$0/month is a dream. TOU is pretty annoying since you have to avoid certain hours if not the cost of electricy is like 3-5X more the usual rate!! If i have solar panels i would want to set the thermostat at 70 or less even when it's 118 outside! so much for my dream of paying $0/month..

maybe they can use electric vehicles as the vehicle of choice for border agents this way you don't have to worry about running out of power or not close enough to a charging station !!
