I hate Amazon's anime service because -- I am a high school student (Don't believe people's ages online, people!). No way in HELL can I afford Prime, much less an extra $5. I just use apps from Microsoft store.

I live in canada prime video and amazon anime strike i can not even get here to watch Re Cretors and rage of bahumet virgin soul as well as Grimore of zero. I have to resort to other means i love supporting anime but i already pay for Crunchyroll Netflix and Funimation i can only follow so many services and amazon does not even offer it here. I would not pay for it anyway as its overpriced and i feel crunchy and funi and netflix are more than enough to handle the anime licensing amazon needs to back out.

And so begins the nail biting.

Personally, I'm only highly invested in CR getting one particular show this season (Symphogear AXZ), but it's going to be interesting to see what the power balance between Crunchyroll, Amazon and now HiDive ends up looking like. I hope we will at least have a more stable situation once fall rolls around with all the highly anticipated shows, but honestly, as long as the battle is being waged with exclusives and there is no one stop show for legal anime, the real winners will be the pirate sites.

Anime strike is so far only in US, we just got Prime Video in Canada in the last few months so they haven't rolled out a double subscription so you can access all the anime you mention with Amazon.ca Prime.

Do we know how long Amazon's Noitamina deal lasts? I have a feeling they'll evaluate when it expires how Strike is doing and if it's worth continuing.

I don't believe there has been any confirmation, only rumor and speculation.

The end of this month will mark one year since the end of Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress, so it is a relatively safe bet that it was at least 2 years.

That said, I'm not certain noitaminA would have that much bearing, given that it is only a single title per season.

I'm just basing off this Answerman where he states:

Amazon's new deal with Fuji TV for several Noitamina shows, however, is a different ball game entirely. It's impossible for me to overstate what a big deal that was. Amazon has more money than God, and the amount they were rumored to be offering for exclusive worldwide streaming rights for a series was by far the highest price I've ever heard of being paid for anime rights -- enough to pay for the entire production and then some.

That's why I think they'll wait for the deal to end as they've already paid a huge amount. Besides, with how Amazon has been dealing with anime I wouldn't be surprised if they did stop Anime Strike mid-deal if there was no way to legally watch noitaminA shows outside of TV.

If someone asked me, "What changes would you most expect Amazon to make to Anime Strike if it doesn't catch on?", that would be at the top of my list. I still don't understand why they didn't offer a separate higher priced standalone Strike subscription (i.e., $7 per month vs. the $5 Amazon Prime members pay for it).

I wouldn't be surprised if they have found success even with their current model. Many people have prime in the places they offer it. They have 88 million subscriptions in the US alone. There are only about 120 million households in the US, and there is little reason to have multiple subscriptions in the household. If you buy things on Amazaon, then you probably save more than the membership cost in shipping alone. The reason for putting it on top of their membership is that they are likely following a similar model to how cable TV channels have operated, charge for the initial service, and offer additional channels at additional cost, so that you can keep the cost of individual channels down.

I maintain membership to both. I had membership to CR and Funi before anyway. Since Funi has dropped out of the sub game, I now have membership to CR and Strike. Since I already have Prime, it is at a lower cost, I think (can't recall the Funi cost). So far, about the same amount of anime end up at Strike as what used to end up on Funi. So, it isn't that different. The only disappointing thing is if you expected with Funi's dropping out of the game, that CR would start to get all the anime.

But it is hard to believe that amazon is getting much of a market for that service. $192 a year is well over twice as expensive as all of their competition. And the biggest problem for me is that they don't offer anything in a suitable low resolution version. I live in the country and have to deal with bandwidth limits. And 1080p doesn't look any better when I'm sitting on my couch.

I think competition is a good thing. Crunchyroll might now feel some imperative to update/fix their godawful apps (Xbox 360 app was bad enough, why is it when I upgrade to a ps4 the app is somehow worse?!)

Otherwise the people threatening to quit this membership for the longest time but being reluctant to do so to not lose their fix will finally start jumping.

As long as they still have Symphogear, I don't really care about anything else this season.(to be fair, yes I do, but I just really can't wait for Symphogear, and the new Ultraman)
