Meanwhile, in Canada.

Yes, he led the pride parade. Yes, he's high fiving a little girl dressed as Wonder Woman. Yes, he's wearing Ramadan Gay Pride socks.

Why not both?

Finding things that offends you takes energy. Anime is a passive, relaxing hobby, so they're actually a great combination!

I got into programming because it was challenging and tough not because its relaxing. LIFE IS EFFORT I'LL STOP WHEN I DIE!!!

Also I am still high off of 2016 election energy!!! I just can't peel myself away from all of our winning.

+davidnoman,

Hardly. I have nothing against lonely insecure people grinding axes. They are like comic relief, but with more pathos.

And sometimes labels have meanings. Do you think I condone one repressed minority repressing another minority? No. But consider the fact that every living thing on this planet could be obliterated tonight by a gamma ray burst or a ruptured magnetar a few star systems over, without any prior warning. None. If some fairy wants to wear a dress and freak people out, more power to 'em.

And in case you're wondering, no. That stuff travels at the speed of light.

Honestly, I don't follow all of this, sure it's clear enough, just that I don't follow a lot of what people say. *shrug*

I wasn't referring to you as prejudiced, though there'd be no way of me knowing one way or the other. Though I'm not sure what's with the "fairy" reference. And I don't understand what the gamma ray metaphor/analogy is in reference to, so that's my bad. Are you saying the topic is a non-issue because it's an isolated incident? I was referring to the original post's response to the (I suppose, technically arguable) anti-Semitism or whatever.

I basically just discuss things, whatever I'm discussing, out of boredom myself. I'm not out to change the world, at least generally speaking so I'm not exactly sure why this should be off-limits. Just to be clear, I completely support marriage equality. (I also don't use the term "fairy" for people who wear dresses, again, don't really understand the comment though.) I'm not religious either. My understanding though is there's a lot of ant-Semitism in the world that, while I don't really care for religion, I don't care for these sorts of attitudes either.

Everything's politicized and so many people feel the need to become partisan hacks, imo.

Its offensive to Christians too ( the difference is only 10 points poll wise between Muslims and Christians in the west ) but our research up here shows a significant shift in acceptance in second generation Muslims. As they move towards our values instead of the values of their parents country.

Our values being hugs, socks and sternly worded letters.

That's cool. There are so many of these threads now, it becomes expedient to offer views on parallel issues as a way off illustrating a point. Young people are notoriously impressionable; my counterpoints often carry a message akin to thinking for one's self rather than throwing in their lot with some self~righteous partisan crusade. To quote myself: politics be damned

It's unfortunate that Black Lives Matter Toronto held the parade hostage last year at Trudeau's first appearance. Then didn't bother to register this year after they got the cops banned. There are a lot of LGBT cops in Toronto and PRIDE has always been about reaching out. The Ban doesn't sit well with a lot of people. BLM Toronto is not doing BLM in general any favours.

Yeah, I mean, Toronto it's a racism free paradise or anything but disrupting someone else's social issue/justice event ( especially a Pride parade of all things ) isn't going to win you a lot of support. It divided opinions in Toronto pretty sharply as I remember.

I don't know maybe because I just don't have a dog in this fight I'm not gay or jewish but have nothing against either, Maybe to show even the most vile symbols of hate can be taken and made fabulously inclusive. I don't think the Star of David is a hate symbol, But I can understand how some might think of it as such

No one thought of it as a hate symbol. You're really off base here. The problem was people dividing along Israel / Palestine lines and the march deciding this year they were pro-Palestine so the Jewish flags were "offensive" now.

I think we all get the idea. Fig 1: Lonely, insecure individual with an axe to grind. Fig 2: Atmosphere of social tolerance for bigotry lends direction to previously unfocused vindictive tendencies. Fig 3: A soapbox which promises anonymity and a wide audience.\

4. A desperate attempt to continue to portray that "Trump is winning!", on whatever own personal anonymous geek-fanboy Internet venue is at hand, by showing scare stories of ridiculous left-wing protestors and uppity ethnic groups acting violent and unreasonable, and therefore that Democrats--who obviously hired them, and deeply and spiritually sympathize with their every whine--have been "humiliated" in our culture, but the price of freedom from looney-savage SJW's is eternal continued vigilance.

Uh, judges?.......Nnnnope, still not buying it.
