China downgraded to one of the worst offenders in human trafficking after taking no significant steps towards curtailing the practice, putting them on the same level as North Korea, Sudan, and Venezuela.

Good. Not to mention the child killing that goes on there through infanticide and abortion because they aren't the right gender. China needs to pay for the lawlessness going on there.

As oppose to the U.S approach which is simply out of sight out of mind; achieved primarily it seems by harassing businesses like Craig's List and Backpage with questionable legal threats and in the case of the later even more questionable arrests.

And now China's getting upset that we said bad things about them, and is threatening "trade repercussions"...

Y'know, literally YESTERDAY, like 24 hours ago, on my blog, I accused Paramount's pro-spin on Transformers 5's box-office--ie. that "Maybe Beijing's $175M is the new reality of the box office, and all we haters who said it 'flopped' should consider that maybe the movie world doesn't revolve around the US anymore", and then their proceeding to make "social theories" about why China's population is a growing market--as having, quote, "All the delusional warning signs of a Bubble, that something no one yet planned for could pop it at any second"...
What, y'mean, like China suddenly getting all pissy about imports, and making a big symbolic show of deciding not to bring over our iconic Hollywood blockbuster movies anymore? Nahh, never happen.

I agree with this decision, but shouldn't they already have been downgraded significantly for the whole illegal occupation and oppression of Nepal thing?

Bleh, that's an embarrassing mistake on my part. But yeah, that seems like an equally grave offence as far as I'm concerned.

According to the article, there's only three categories, and the major reason that China got downgraded is that they stopped even pretending to give a shit about human trafficking. Fewer prosecutions, and they mostly just sent the North Korean traffickers back to North Korea without a trial at all. So now they're in the lowest category.

What about the countries in the middle east? Slavery is quite literally a thing there, but it gets left out of these kinda talks.

Afghanistan was actually upgraded from 3 to 2 because they've started cracking down on human trafficking.

State Department has a PDF list (actually linked in the article). It's somewhat large-ish.

TIER PLACEMENTS

TIER 1

TIER 2

TIER 2 WATCH LIST

TIER 3

I understand this might be slightly off topic, but they should be downgraded one more because of there tendency to boil cats and dogs alive.
