that is interesting, but what they don't include there are sign languages, which do count as their own languages

American sign language is actually the 4th most used language in the world

Not surprised at all. China, America, and India are some of the biggest countries; obviously Mandarin, English, and Hindi will be in the top ten. There are also tons of countries speaking Arabic and Spanish, and Russia is huge. Really, no surprises here. Some of the lower languages surprise me, though. Like Japanese. Japan is teensy tiny after all.

Asians just outnumbered everyone and most of them speak mandarin. I prefer cantonese though, not sure why mandarin is taught in school. I've seen white/black people speaking mandarin so maybe it's easier to learn.
