http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/italy-considers-closing-its-ports-to-boats-carrying-migrants/ar-BBDpSq9?OCID=ansmsnnews11

this is after 11k came in just this week

Meanwhile, Italy’s neighbours have closed their borders to try to keep migrants from moving north as they did in the past, and some EU partners such as Poland and Hungary have refused to host some asylum-seekers to ease the burden on Italy and Greece, another frontline country.

b...b..but that's xenophobic and racist, they cant deny asylum to these people! they are just as bad as trump, literally hitler!

Was coming into this thread expecting actual discussion and then saw the last paragraph.

Honestly not sure why I expect actual adult discourse to happen on this forum anymore.

You're preemptively derailing your own thread.

As for the topic itself, as mentioned its likely a violation of maritime law. But even if it weren't it wouldn't do much. The problem needs to be tackled at the source or in transit. If there was another boat waiting to just load them up at sea and ship them right back a few times over it might start to discourage or disrupt the traffickers. As it seems like Libya isn't doing squat.

With conditions in Syria and the like, economic migrants are a secondary concern. It's unfortunate if poverty conditions are driving them to this, but that doesn't top the threat of being executed by ISIS or bombed by Assad/Russia. Refugees from actual war torn countries are the foremost priority right now.

There's only so much the EU can do and this needs to be approached like triage to make sure its doing it for the people who need it the most.

Closing their ports isn't necessarily going to stop the flow of migrants. It will probably lead to more incidents of overloaded smugglers' boats needing rescue.

Comparing migrants to invading hordes of germanic barbarians with complex and volatile relations with Rome, how original.

Most of the invading barbarians were not Germanic they were being driven westward due to the Huns. They were from eastern Europe. Rome was stupid enough to let some of them enter the Alps.

>> I understand George has the money but what is going on with immigrants needs to be dealt with not just in Italy but all over or just let your cities go to hell because i see more of it happening when i travel abroad!

We've been seeing record deaths across the Mediteranean for the last year or so.

The whole situation is lose/lose. Its a shame that Redo turned her thread to garbage from the first post because honestly, this is something that should be discussed, but in a level headed and logical manner.

The EU and Mama Merkel's open borders policies is the reason this is happening in the first place. Closing ports and tighter border security is the first step towards ending this madness.

Nope. Especially when half the time they sink their boats on purpose within sight of coast guard ships so as to force them to help.

It doesn't matter do you not help someone committing suicide of course you try to save them and btw many are kids with no choice in the matter. God adults like you make me wish for the Phantom Thieves
Also praising Hungary is creepy with the second largest party being Nazis and the government saying all options for dealing with Roma are on the table
(I don't mean assisted suicide I mean like a person jumps off a bridge we call an ambulance)
