Enmusubi no Youko-chan

Synopsis

In a world where Spirits and Humans coexist and can fall in love with each other, many Spirits see their human loved ones die before them due to the Spirits’ much longer life expectancy.

Even when that human is reborn, the previous memories of their past life is erased from their memory. However, it is said among Spirits that a certain “service” is spreading. This “service” is provided by the “Fox Spirit Matchmakers” who can revive the lost memories of their former lover.

When a Spirit loses their lover, they can purchase the service of the Fox Spirit Matchmakers to attempt to restore their former lover’s memories, and continue their love story together.

This story follows a young Fox Spirit Matchmaker who tries her best to restore lost memories and spread love.

The first episode is now up.

Episode 1

So it begins with Suusu being assigned to marry a certain man, Haku Gessho. Suusu finds Gessho, and some mongrel attacks them with that guy fighting back. It turns out that the attacker is the reincarnated princess's highness Han Unhi. And Gessho has quite a big appetite as reincarnation is explained. Considering that it's another one of those low-budget shows for something of Chinese origins that I wasn't expecting much, and while it hasn't done anything to stand out, at least it does have some intrigue, all while those fox girls are really cute. I'll watch some more for the time being.

I noticed that the show aired many seasons ago so this is the TV version. Really curious to hear about the folks who saw the original and compared to this.

Well Suusu is cute but that's pretty much all the positive I can say. I guess it has a decent premise underneath it all but, damn, this was a mess. I might give it a second episode just because but this is looking like an easy drop right now.

So as soon as I saw the production company, my hopes faded...

They gave those smash hits like Bloodivores.

I haven't watched the yet but as soon as I saw the previous post that the production company is HAOLINERS I thought "yeah no".

I'll give it a try off course but HAOLINERS doesn't do very good anime.

Haoliners seems very... "miss". I liked 'To Be Hero', but have mostly actively avoided every other show they've done (that has come up on Crunchyroll). I guess I should give this a shot, though.

This is kind of similar to the English dubs for the USA/Canadian markets. That is, dubbing a show that came out years ago is a little. That is as much the norm with simuldubs and a boxset with a dub typically coming out 12-15 after the Japanese TV debut.

Was expecting the usual Chinese trainwreck of an anime, and was plenty surprised that it was just mediocre

I'd give it at least another episode as at it wasn't cliche.

This isn't all what I was expecting. It's so much better! I haven't laughed so much in a while.

Gonna hop on and ride this train-wreck till the end of the line!

I tired I really really tired. I gave up half way then started watching the rest of the eps I just couldn't.. The tone was all the place. Is it a drama comdey, action show ? romance? make up your mind! The comedy felt really forced...

I wish the rest of you luck getting through this one!

I hope that this matchmaking service is not the solution to the Japanese dropping birth rate problem

That's pretty much Haoliners for you. Everything they do/did seems to be stuck in this sort of whirlwind of genres. It isn't always terrible, just low budget, but it never really seems to totally settle on one style or genre.
