Synopsis

Hyakkaou Private Academy. An institution for the privileged with a very peculiar curriculum. You see, when you're the sons and daughters of the wealthiest of the wealthy, it's not athletic prowess or book smarts that keep you ahead. It's reading your opponent, the art of the deal. What better way to hone those skills than with a rigorous curriculum of gambling? At Hyakkaou Private Academy, the winners live like kings, and the losers are put through the wringer. But when Yumeko Jabami enrolls, she's gonna teach these kids what a high roller really looks like!

This is one of the shows I have been looking for, but unfortunately it's only going to be available on the dark side until October thanks to the way Netflix does business.

It's a shame this show won't get nearly the same popularity as I'll have hopes for now....sigh.

Anyways, I seen it on TV today. Thoughts:

Ryouta isn't the MC, he's like...a side MC. Yumeko is the main MC. Ryuouta is pretty much there for us as a viewer to see what's going on and to have things explained if you know nothing about any of the games being played. xD

Well subtitles for this show is surely going to be an iffy situation throughout this series (until October) due to Netflix and fansub groups slowly dying out throughout the years. I'll spoil pretty much a majority of my post for this series going forward.

Yumeko is a monster. We need more protagonists like her.

Ah crap, the dark side is tempting.

I don't think it's morally wrong to torrent if I'm paying for Netflix anyway...

what to do?

Great first episode. They really did a great job with capturing the atmosphere from the manga and the character's craziness .The OP is pretty good, too.
So far, I'm completely satisfied with this adaptation .

Well, if that's the case it's not like Netflix is losing any money from you. And you could always watch it all over again on Netflix if you really enjoyed it.

On a somewhat unrelated matter, I find it hilarious that the only current way to watch a show where the characters basically sell their souls to the gambling devil is by watching it on the dark side.

I'm not sure how much more I'm willing to go on the dark side, but I did end up watching the first episode. I'll definitely subscribe to Netflix and watch this in October, but for now I just need a taste of this.

Episode 1

That was quite an intense game of three-card Rock-Paper-Scissors there. Yumeko sure is quite a gamer there being able to figure out that Saotome is manipulating the class in her favor as she came prepared for this situation. I'm totally up for more of this as it's exactly what I had hoped for in this show. Not to mention, the high stakes involved with everything and Yumeko being such a strong lead.

I just realized something about the game. Yumeko won that game fair and square. She won without using any real tricks besides simple taunts. I expected her to be some sort of master of deception but she didn't try to do anything. As soon as they explained the rules of the game and had the classmates all draw the cards for them, I immediately figured that most of the classmates were trying to rig it in Mary's favor. There were hardly any scissors left to deal with her guaranteed paper and yet Yumeko still played by the rules and left it all to chance. She seriously gambled on 10 million yen without having any plan to win other than hope she draws the one card she needs. This chick is even crazier than I thought.

I wonder how much of the manga this is going to cover, each chapter is about 40-80 pages a month and so far there are 42 chapters so there's a lot of material they could do for 2 seasons I believe.
