Episode 3

So with that explosion, Kane and the captain are fighting each other seeing that one wants to save everybody while the other sees things as simply being close enough to the real history. But after further thinking, the roushis are the ones responsible for the explosion, not the retrograde thugs, as they are pretty territorial and will not let foreigners step on their turf. So they learn what these masterless samurais are up to, and the boys find a way to stop them from killing the foreigners that would close the doors to foreign relationships. And then the boys do their thing against the retrograde army while letting history run its course unimpeded with those roushis all arrested. Tensions sure were high, but it all worked out in the end seeing that taking out those retrograde thugs is the only thing they are supposed to do.

You mean Mutsunokami.

Izuminokami Kanesada = Kane-san = captain, long black hair and earrings

Mutsunokami Yoshiyuki = Energetic, likes to eat a lot, wants to explore the world

Tonbokiri = Muscles

Yagen Toushiro = short-shorts, doctor, looks young

Horikawa Kunihiro = Fluff, looks up to Kane-san, Western costume with white pants

Note that personal names are first, family names are last (e.g. Yagen's brothers are Midare Toushiro, Honebami Toushiro, etc; Horikawa's brothers are Yamanbagiri Kunihiro, etc.). This is because of how swords are referred to, apparently (e.g. "The [ sword name ] of [ swordsmith ]". Their family names are the names of their swordsmiths.

Also, watch Hanamaru because it's good and fluffy and wonderful. For these characters: second half of ep.2 ->Yagen and Oda Nobunaga; ep 4. Izuminokami and Horikawa; eps.11-12 -> Mutsunokami with Izuminokami, Horikawa, and three other Shinsengumi swords. Plot relates to earlier things in the series with swords that aren't in Katsugeki though.

........... my favorite sword (Kashuu Kiyomitsu) is one of the main characters in Hanamaru but he's not in this.

Ep 3:

Goddamn it. I can't decide who I love more: Kane-san or Mutsu....

Also, it's not here but the wiki for the game seems convinced that someone winds up dying because of all the symbolism and what not in the OP/ED. Kanesan did say something in the first episode that gave me deathflag vibes...and Mutsu did the last two episodes....but...I think people badly want this to be Fate since it's ufotable.

It is Mutsunokami for me all the way. The guy is just adorable from his design to his voice! Though Kane-san has plenty of reason to love him too. Tonbokiri is rather cute as well.

Not sure if I have been really catching any death flags myself, though since this is a more serious take on the series I wouldn't be surprised if one of the swords broke. I wouldn't really say 'dies' as the can sort of be 'revived' right? They would just technically be the same sword, yet different? I could be wrong as I have never played the game.

I love that when I came home from work Saturday night I the newest episode of this show to look forward to. Episode three, was just a beautiful as the last two and I love the difference in design/animation between the backgrounds and the characters at certain points like when Mutsunokami was sitting at the dock talking to Kane-san and the ocean was behind him - it makes the characters really pop and stand out.

While a loved this weeks episode (ep. 3), I am still hoping we are introduced to some more swords, and perhaps the other spears, later in the show. You know, like Shokudaikiri.

If they do decide to a second season of this(and considering how Hanamaru did...that's a possibility) and wind up killing everyone off, I'd like to see them try a different cast.

Like Kasen...

Tonbotiddy is cute as hell. I want to see a spinoff where he and Mutsu go all over the world and eat all sorts of weirdass foods. My only nitpick so far in this version is that...Yagen's actually more of an outgoing sort in the game and so far...he's been kind of distant.

Wonder when Tsurumaru(white haired guy in snow in OP) shows up? Guess he shows up in another mission. It does look like that this show's plot is basically the gang interacting with people of all eras while preventing the Army from showing up. But it's not like the game had a concrete plot going on anyway...

It's actually pretty hard to break someone ingame unless you're stupid....as I was when I accidentally broke a sword... However, if someone does break in this series...most of them are constant drops. Except Tonbo who's rare.

The characters I would want to see in a sequel to focus on or to just appear in this are: Ichigo Hitofuri, Shokudaikiri Mitsutada, Yamanbagiri Kunihiro, Ookurikara, Akita Toushirou, Nakigitsune, Akashi Kuniyuki, Aizen Kunitoshi, Sayo Samonji, and Heshikiri Hasebe. Unless they tie this up really well, I can say I would love to see a sequel announced like Hanamaru.

I would adore it if a spin-off series like that happened! A simple, single OVA would be fine too. I agree, based solely of Hanamaru, that Yagen seems a lot more reserved in this show. My only complaint (Or at least something I am confused about) is why the Saniwa didn't call the swords earlier or already made the team larger at the beginning as in episode two most of them mention they have already had their human forms for awhile.

Tsurumaru wants to make sure his appearance will leave everyone in surprise, though I am really looking forward to when he turns up. I wonder if he will permanently join the team (perhaps a replacement if one of the current team members break?) or if he will just be a support, filling in every now and again? It is good to see this show being more action based than Hanamaru's more slice-of-life atmosphere. It has been fun to see the difference. Also, this show is just gorgeous!

That is good to know as I am not good at keeping characters alive as proved by playing Fire Emblem. If I don't play that on easy, I usually have to keep restarting chapters to make sure all my units make it out. I'm not the best tactician.

It would probably be 2019 before a sequel came out, but Touken Ranbu is pretty hot in Japan right now. I can't see this NOT doing well..

That annoyed me a little bit...You all hang out in the citadel and you don't at least shoot the shit for a little bit? Must be one huge ass citadel!

Maybe he shows up midway. There's five of them now; usually in game there's six member teams. So maybe Saniwa-chan adds on Tsuru for the next mission?

I can already see Tsuru getting on Izumi's last nerve And Mutsunokami will be egging him on

Episode 4

It's onward to Edo for the next mission, and history has been altered as there were supposed to be two bodyguards, but only one is actually there. So they encounter an ootachi, which is much stronger than a normal retrograde goon. While they do what they needed to do against the ootachi stalling him for time, there's another retrograde attack as a warship is coming to destroy Edo. While Yagen stopped the humans from blowing up Edo, now he's outnumbered, until Saniwa comes to the rescue. Lots of drama going on here as once again those Retrograde bastards are becoming increasingly crafty.

Tsuruuuuuuuuu \o/

I like how his line is the exact same line in the game when he drops.

Time to sink into the yagen hole.

Tonbokiri totally becoming moe chara. >_>

That's not Katsugeki saniwa, that's Tsurumaru Kuninaga, the 6th and final member of the team. Random game trivia: Each team can have up to 6 members, and you set up to 4 teams. Kane-san's leading the second team. First team, if the OP means anything, indicates that it includes Mikazuki Munechika and Yamanbagiri Kunihiro.

On one hand, I do really enjoy this show.

On the other hand.... Honebami soon please. My baby. (also because he's played by the same seiyuu as the guy in my icon, who I'm rather obsessed with...)
