The combat scenes are very well done. Nicely choreographed, smooth motion, lots of flare.

I agree, the fights action sequence are pretty good...

and Yagen is indeed badass, must be from all the masters he has served.
I was cracking up in that small boat scene...faster faster as Kane san barks his order while he just sits there

Tonbokiri totally becoming moe chara. >_>

Tobokiri = possibly the best moe character this season.

Glad to see Tsurumaru show up this episode and Yagen was rather badass himself. I am happy to see him getting a good amount of screen time as I thought out of all the swords on the team Yagen would get shafted with that.

The action scenes were very nicely done this episode too, especially Mutsunokami's parts! I am continuously impressed by this series animation. Sure, it has some hiccups, but I hardly notice them.

However, what I really loved about this episode is we're finally getting to see consequences to the changes they have been made in history, even though they were somewhat 'fixed.' While the Retrograde Army is helping a bit here, it is mainly the humans the swords have to worry about I feel.

Why does this little scene remind me so much of an old wild west movie or a gangsta film?

The story line isn't really grabbing me, I honestly have no interest in what happens to anyone, but I keep coming back for the animation. These fight scenes are just so entertaining!

Mission failed New team to take over.

Tonbokiri's last moments.

Two or three times during the episode, it sounded like the Godzilla soundtrack was playing in the background?

Episode 5

Everybody made it through that battle on the ship, but they only took care of one problem as the retrograde army has another ship that is intent on burning Edo to the ground. This one burns the town using cannons that are not from the era, and then Tonbokiri goes down. That was a tough break there being outsmarted like that, but that's not the worst of it as they lose Tonbokiri in the process. That was just depressing to watch.

.......welp.

I seriously didn't expect this show to start killing off people until the end but I'm wrong.

So does this mean we get Honebami and Yamanbagiri now?
(.... no, I don't just like them because of their seiyuu...)

I wonder who will be leading Team One this time around and if we are going to get a whole new slew of characters while the ones of the previous episodes take a backseat for now or if they are going to combine the two? Anyway, looks like next episode will have all the characters dealing with what happened this episode and a look into the life at the Citadel. I can't wait!

I"m thinking next episode or two might be our Main Team healing up while Jiji's team takes over for a bit.

Interesting fact: The place where the Saniwa tells Jiji to go is where his master was killed.

Mikazuki, Honebami, Yamanbagiri, Oodenta, Higekiri, and Hizamaru. Probably.

Don't know if we'll get a combination of the two though.

Japanese saniwas mentions that enroku 8/1565 is when Ashikaga Yoshiteru, the 13th shougun of Muromachi bakufu and the owner of a few of the swords that got credited up there, was killed.

Are these referring to the same thing?

Yes they are - the period they're going to ( Eiroku ) is the period where the former master of Mikazuki Munechika ( and perhaps a few other swords in this team, I have to look it up. I know Honebami belonged to the same guy before he was handed down to someone else but I'm not sure about the others ) was killed. However, the time period pertains particularly to Mikazuki Munechika because his master died while wielding him. So we're likely in for a lot of angst.

Really hoping Unit 1's mission doesn't last just 2 episodes especially since unit 2 got 5 episodes to develop almost all the characters except tsurumaru who came incredibly late for some reason. ( they were dragging it out but still ) it would be unfair. Ufotable should give Unit 1 an equal amount of time focus since they're the next main character unit of Katsugeki.

Since Mikazuki is a main character as well they shouldn't treat his mission with Unit 1 like its a side quest while Unit 2 chills. I don't care if their mission has the same formulaic slow pacing as the previous 5 episodes. I just wanna see how Unit 1 works as a team and how the mission goes in the same amount of time as it took for Unit 2 to fail their mission.

( edit ) Also I'd like to point out that Ufotable never said Unit 2 would be the main cast the entire series, exemplified when they made no mention of Unit 1 in the synopsis ( most likely meaning they were never intended to be just supporting characters ) but also when they said the Anime would take place in the Bakamatsu period and yet the next arc is going to be focused on the Eiroku era. I feel like Unit 2 were the main characters of the first arc and Unit 1 are going to be the main characters of the second arc. I also believe that once the entirety of Unit 1 is introduced, the synopsis will change to suit unit 1's mission as well as the official website changing ( probably some cosmetic changes to show off unit 1 like they did with Unit 2 ) and maybe even the OP to be more focused on Unit 1. But we'll see. And then once the Eiroku arc is over I feel like the last few episodes will be unit 1 and 2 coming together to defeat the retrograde army. A cool, big fight.. ( speculation )
