Ughhh that ending was stupid.

Nothing about how Horikawa felt living among humans for three years. Nothing about the awkwardness of hiding his identity, or seeing his sword form being used, or remembering things before they happen.

Also nothing about his brother... the other two brother pairs fought together but they didn't. Which is like... why even have his brother in the series then? He's a popular character, but so are a lot of others. Okita's swords aside, since they have an anime, there's Kasen, Hachisuka, Hotarumaru, etc.... it just felt awkward to have him there and not mention it.

Aaaaand they did not do the thing where they bring in a bunch of other characters for cameos at the end. Not even Shokudaikiri, who they... just... randomly showed that one time.

Altogether, Hanamaru is just a better show. More emotional depth, better story, etc. (It's pretty much exactly the same story but better.)

Movie looks like a recap... basically just a fandom event more than new content.

Higekiri called Hizamaru by his name.

Tsuru and Jijii fighting together is such a pretty picture. ^q^ They did fought before too huh? Wonder which owner that was.

To be honest, there weren't any interaction between Manba and Horikawa in the first place in this universe anyways. Doesn't sound too off that they have no interaction together at the 1000 fight.

Hotarumaru is not even a starting sword, not sure why you bought him up.

Cameo. You also forgot about Kogi and Kara-chan.

Doubt it. The fact that Saniwa sent team 2 on to another mission.

Popular. Yamatonokami isn't a starter either. I didn't mention Kogitsunemaru or Ookurikara because they did have cameos, like you mentioned, and they already have two Awataguchi swords, so Namazuo or Ichigo Hitofuri wouldn't be the best examples of characters who would have worked just as well as Yamanbagiri (as much as I'd love to see them).

I don't dislike Yamanbagiri, I just thought it was awkward that they had those two characters and gave them no interaction over the whole series (not just in this episode, I meant in the whole series).

Unless they expand the cast, or give Yagen a whole lot of focus, I'm probably not interested in any sequels to this... Hanamaru s2, though... Hanamaru is one of my top 5 anime ever.

I like the conclusion to this mission or the ending of this anime.

I always wondered about Kunihiro, so since he stayed in the previous timeline and so he is there in the future
.I love the scene between Kane-san and Hijikata san.Kane san was determined to get his resolve back as a warrior becuase Kane san is the soul of the katana that is Hijikata.

That must have been very difficult for Kane san to do .At the end ...after the fight ... that scene almost made me cry.

I loved the story they made around Hijikata's katana and wakizashi
I feel the story was developed from the fact that a samurai can part from the katana but can never part with its wakizashi.

So much emotion into them... this reminded me of a character acting training I took many years ago. Its called object work. From the object you creat a history , the connection to the item.So much depth is developed and in the end you feel that the story you made is very real. It was a very powerful exercise.

But overall, my favorite episodes were the last 5 the story between the sword and the former masters

Really loved that ending and the series overall. Started slow, but picked up really well. Horikawa is best.

I do think Hanamaru was a little better though. Even if they juggled too many characters.

I don't know, the three swords that have a cameo appearance all have something to do with the characters that showed up in this series. Kogi is a part of the Sanjo school, Micchan/Kara-chan/Tsurumaru are all part of the Date group. Showing the rest of the Awataguchi would be too much, probably why they didn't do it. None of the Kotetsu or the Rai katanas are involved in Katsugeki, Hotaru and Hacchi wouldn't make sense to show up.

But yeah, it's slightly weird that they didn't have the Kunihiro swords interact with each other, but it's not that big of a deal to be honest.

I finally got the chance to watch this, and marathoned it yesterday. (Hanamaru 2 popped up on CR when I was about halfway through Katsugeki. LOL.)

This is definitely very different than Hanamaru, but in a good way. And I definitely like both shows. In spite of not playing the game, and not knowing a whole lot of Japanese history, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Even though Kasen didn't even get to be in it, not even as a background character at the honmaru.

This really made me like Izumi a lot more. I always thought he was likable, but he got so much focus and character development that he's grown on me a lot. If I had been able to watch Katsugeki when it came out, I probably would have really wanted to get Izumi's Nendo when it was released last year.

I loved the animation and focus on action, though it did get a bit gory at times. And the way they interpreted the game differently than Hanamaru was interesting. Putting any plot oddities and little complaints aside, I would definitely watch another season.

Now if they made a beautifully animated, action-filled, character developing series with Kasen as the main, I would absolutely die of happy. <3

Bumping this, because dub is coming out this summer.

Yatta from K is Mucchan. I would've cast Haberkorn as Tsurumaru...but oh well. Already loving Robbie Daymond as Izumi though; he was seriously one of the first VAs I thought of who'd be good as Izumi.

Izumi's always been one of my fave swords, but Katsugeki seriously made him a definite favorite. I love him soooo much in this..and it's a great performance from Ryohei Kimura too.

Same with Mucchan; he's soooo lovely and adorable and a true bro. His VA did great as well!

I love Hanamaru 2(especially because my boy got more facetime) but I still love Katsugeki better, warts and all....*hides*

Both Tourabu anime series have their quirks and charms, but Hanamaru wins out for me because of Kasen. If Katsugeki had featured Kasen, it would be a whole other story. LOL. (Still hoping for another season, with Kasen featured.)

I ended up getting Izumi's Nendo anyway, and I evidently need to play Where's Waldo in episode 6 to find Kasen. LOL.

I'd love to get the Katsugeki Blu-Ray set, but I am afraid of the price tag. A lot of Aniplex series are very expensive. I wanted to get March Comes in Like a Lion, but the price is insane. ;~;

If Kasen had been in Katsugeki, I"D DIE. On Twitter, someone had translated that scene where some of the swords are eating/socializing(Forgot to mention, this is Katsugeki manga) and there's a nice pic of Kasen with dialogue.

Aniplex is going to break me because I want this soooo much. Maybe the dub will show up on CR?

if March, Granblue Fantasy or even Eromanga Sensei were cheaper, I'd probably would get them.

I would have died of happy if Kasen had been in Katsugeki, too. And I was tempted to get the Katsugeki manga when I was buying some other things last month. (Even though I can't really read Japanese. Yet.)

But I have spent too much money on fun stuff lately, so I have to put a halt on my extra spending for a while. With a couple of exceptions, in case of a certain Nendo release.
