Do you find this statement true or false in your opinion? Do you agree or disagree?
Choose wisely.

Bonus Question:

1) Can a cliche be done in a way that isn't overdone?

If something is cliché, then by definition it is overused and stereotypical. You are either one or the other.

Alright. So, there can't be a "cliche with a twist" instead?

No because that's an M Night Shyamalan film.

I am not convinced there is a logical difference. Although I would need a finer description than "a twist".
In and of itself, I suppose it would depend on the twist. If it causes a substantial change in an individual's character, or completely alters the original concept or idea, then yes. However, if the twist is minimal, then no.

Hopefully that makes sense.

I would say Wreck-It-Ralph is a good example of something that is completely original, is cliché down to story, but brings so much to the table with a surprising well done twist which leaves a good impression on the viewer. I think execution of the piece is vital to it's critical and financial success. Not just throwing a twist into a piece of work to try and get a reaction from someone. If the work doesn't captivate the audience your twist on the material with have a lesser impact.

Another example of a Cliché is John Wick. His dog gets killed his car stolen and he wants revenge. It's a revenge Movie, can't get any more cliché than that. The movie sets the audience up to connect with the actor on the importance of those 2 figures within the movie, the rest of the movie, especially the action scenes, does many things to distinguish itself from the crowd, and it shows big time.

It was about the adding a twist to a cliché. Basically describing almost every single one of his movies lol

Some people will try to go out of their way to create something "original", and it may not be something they are necessarily good at, so the product will be bad...so I believe this is true

Yes. For me, the best example is Kill La Kill. It's a parody and has lots of cliches and anime tropes. But It generally did them very well and reminded you why they became cliched and tropes in the first place.

True just like if something is unoriginal and full of cliches it doesn't mean it's bad.

Everything is in how it's written
