We get a huge pot the size of a dome to collect sea water, we boil the sea water for a whole week or a month leaving only salt behind. And we get large amount of distilled water. How does that idea sound?

Sounds like we'd have a bunch of salt and no water or am I missing something?

When water boil you get distilled water , need to keep the flame going but flame does not cost electricity.


P.S You need to collect water vapor to get distilled water

yeah but when you boil water, it becomes a vapor and what you are left with is salt.

i think that's the problem we have fredreload. collecting that water vapor is the problem, not boiling salt water.

Water vapor becomes cloud and rains I think . How about bio engineer an organism that generates water? We got one that generates hydrogen gas

Just recycle waste water. I don't know if it the recycled water is safe to drink, but it can probably be used for other things.

great! how do we get all the energy to boil the salt water?

supposedly, the energy needed to do so is
W = P * V * 100, where W is in Joules (Watt second), P = 27.6 atm = 2.80 * 10^6 Pascal and V is in Liters
the largest dome is reported to be about 310m in diameter
which turns out to yield a volume of 7.80 x 10^6 cubic meters, or 7.8 x 10^9 Liters
this means, it would take (2.80*10^6)(7.80*10^9)10^2
= 2.18 * 10 ^ 18 Joules to bring all that water to a boil.

by comparison, the largest tested nuclear bomb, the Tsar, yields 2.1*10^17 Joules

this means, it would take 10 Tsars just to make all that water boil, and may God help you with the logistics in catching all the 7.8 x 10^9 Liters of boiled water

it's probably more feasible to use water pokemon instead.

Lack of access to clean water is a larger problem than lack of access to water and water waste/pollution via large scale agriculture is the foremost problem for existing water systems.

Boiling seawater isn't a solution. Sanitation and eating less beef is. >.>

as well as stopping companies from dropping their waste on clean water supplies or prevent the pipes from getting contaminated as a result of corrupt officials looking for ways to save a few bucks *cough Flint cough*

Amazing, you've just invented what cruise ships have been doing for fresh water for the last thirty years!

(And basically destroying the sea ecology with the salt-heavy brine waste product, but hey, at least they got that far in the research.)

Technically I think steam engine is a great invention , I'd use the waste salt to create a salt pool so I'll float above it but, don't dump the extra salt back into sea water

The only by product is carbon dioxide, and we'll need plant to digest that

P.S How about filtering salt water, it could be slow but not if the entire world is doing it
