Plot Summary

Feckless high school student Tatara Fujita wants to be good at something - anything. Unfortunately, he's about as average as a slouchy teen can be. The local bullies know this, and make it a habit to hit him up for cash, but all that changes when the debonair Kaname Sengoku sends them packing. Sengoku's not the neighborhood watch, though. He's a professional ballroom dancer. And once Tatara Fujita gets pulled into the world of the ballroom, his life will never be the same.

I'm grateful for Twitch for doing this as I certainly liked the discussion that came beforehand.

Episode 1

A chance encounter is what starts Tatara's career as a pro dancer, and it comes after being saved from a bunch of bullies. He sure has the determination and the work ethic to be one even if his foot doesn't seem to agree with him. Anyway, that was a nice way to begin this show with Tatara really establishing himself, all while Sengoku and Shizuku made nice first impressions. I feel like I'm gonna be watching Dancing with the Stars once competition begins, except that everybody is a pro unlike the reality show where all contestants consist of a pro and a celebrity.

I watched it on Twitch.

I would have liked a tiny bit more of a trace of realism in terms of how easily/quickly Tatara comes to his strong conviction to make Ballroom Dancing his passion, but overall I enjoyed the episode. I really liked the stylized design used in showing the dancers on the DVD -- angular shapes and slashes of color. I liked the similar, but more detailed, aesthetic of Sengoku's "Box" demonstration, and Tatara's attempts to copy it.

So far all characters are quite likable (except the cookie-cutter bullies of course), and I look forward to the next episode.

Is he a pro already after 1 day?

Did he discuss his new profession with his father?

He reminds me a lot of the MC from the soccer anime, Days.

Enjoyed this a lot more on Dodger's stream than I would have by myself. Too bad that won't be a weekly thing.

I started watching there, but quickly discovered that I don't enjoy all that nattering while I'm watching a show for the first time, and switched over to the blissfully quiet twitchpresents stream instead.

The Twitch premiere was two days early, it should be up on Anime Strike tomorrow.

I guess the show pages there don't show up ahead of time.

With the way Amazon works, the show page doesn't go up until the premiere. Check back at 8am Pacific as that is when it goes up on Amazon.

Now it's out on Anime Strike.

Thoughts on the first episode:

Well this was quite something.

I liked the creativity they poured into the OP song in particular during the walking scenes between the dancing partners. Thought that was kinda neat. The only thing that bothered me slightly was the length of the characters' necks.

Tatara has plenty of time for development although my initial impression of him in this first episode is so-so. He definitely feels determined to learn though. I also kinda like how the first episode goes into dance fundamentals already.

Kiyoharu is awesome, loved the way he debuted against those bullies.
Shizuku also gives off her cool vibe with her personality.

Solid first episode.

Episode 1

Ooh, this gonna be goood!

For a while now, I've been searching for a legit dancing series and I think this one is the real deal! The moves feel real since the director actually took 6 months worth of dance lessons just for this show.

If there is any complaint I have, it would be the character designs. Specifically the middle schoolers, they don't look like they're kids, which a problem Production I.G. always has with their designs looking very mature and intimidating.

Still, glad to have dancing in anime that isn't displayed in idol shows.

This has been one of the titles I've anticipated to watch and gotta say, I find the character definition to be very impressive. It also felt as if the episode was too short, but ahh~ that was just the time flyin' by without my knowing.

Ahhh that was just as good as I was expecting! I love Production I.G. and I love the composer Yuki Hayashi. I already got chills just from this first episode. I honestly couldn't care less that it's about dancing, but I love sports shows, so I'm still extremely hyped. Waiting week to week for this is going to be hard.
