Episode 1 is now up on Anime Strike.

Episode 1

And so it begins with Haraga and Roberto being introduced, along with the rest of the priests as they are there to give blessings and exonerate the evil spirits. First case takes them to America where a virgin lady somehow gave birth. It turns into something bigger as Klaus gets murdered, and the statue of Virgin Mary is crying. Lots of intrigue right off the bat as there's something going on that can't be explained by science. Pretty solid start this is off to.

Decent start but this story feels pretty dark.

I like the setting though as it has this Victorian-ish feel. Plus, I think the show did a decent job at introducing the main characters so far. The holy music adds a refreshing addition to this series.

Episode 1

So, there's a mysterious feel that has a religious theme and a victorian era atmosphere going on.

Still, even though I get what they're going for, I feel it's a bit too dramatic at times and some of the exposition can be overwhelming, even for a mystery series.

Not entirely sure if I want to keep up, but at least the OP is catchy enough to seem inviting!

I thought this one was going to be boring, but it was actually pretty interesting. The mystery and intrigue here are enough to make me want to watch more. Also, I think the music did a pretty good job of setting the mood.

Episode 1

First episode our two main characters are given a case where they have to investigate a pregnancy. The one claiming she is pregnant is sister Dolores and that she visited at night and the next day she was pregnant. To make it worse one of the fathers is dead so this case has gotten bigger.

It's got an interesting premise, so at least I'd give it points for originality. Hopefully the pacing picks up as it was glacially slow. They felt the need to introduce dozens of characters, but clearly telegraph the most suspicious one

Crying statue phenomena tends to involve porous rock absorbing water, glazing the whole statue, scratching the glaze off under the eyes, then adjusting the temperature to get the moisture to appear from the eyes.

Definitely a lot better than I was afraid it would be. Heck, so far it's a pretty good representation of Catholicism, which hardly ever happens in anime. The mystery is appropriately disturbing and dark, and there are characters who are bad Catholics without having the whole thing be anti-Catholic, or having the characters and situations be totally un-Catholic. I think it also avoided being too "inside baseball" for non-Catholic viewers.

I like the main characters. The little brother with cancer is thematically appropriate (although I don't understand why he couldn't be treated in Italy, if Fr. Hiraga is his only family). I also like the way they dealt with the kids who were Up to No Good -- ie, they weren't depicted as pure evil even though they were dabbling in bad stuff. Given the large number of secondary characters, I'm guessing this particular case will include a few more episodes before the story is done.

I like a world in which all the priests wear cassocks. But one runs into enough people on Catholic blogs who have worked in Vatican offices that the high tech retina scanner was unintentionally hilarious. It's not that the Vatican is against high tech... it's just that they have a budget smaller than most universities, and a great deal of inertia. So yeah, this must be a magical anime universe if people are spending money on office security equipment. (Same thing with the Vatican running an investigation so quickly.)

Having two disclaimers about the fictional nature of the show was funny, if a bit worrisome. What are they going to do, that they want to cover their butts so much? Or are they just hoping to ward off crazy conspiracy theorists who think the X-Files is a documentary?

Interesting start, though the direction at times felt kind of off in terms of scene transitions or character interaction.

I like conspiracy stuff....

but I wonder how the japanese audience take this...being all about stuff within the Vatican .. dark side..horror etc.

but I agree the transistion felt off. It didnt flow very well. Sounds like Suwabe san and Okamoto san are the dynamic duo

Being raised catholic I found this hilarious Once the "virgin birth" claim happened I knew it was game on lol. Setting aside the reality of a intact hymen proving virginity the whole "and here's a picture of her hymen" scene was just too funny. Wonder how two priests are trained in hymen inspection, must be rough when all you have to work with are altar boys . Anyway why were their so many Germans (going by the names, I'll let "anime" explain the looks) at a church in southern Mexico (that is where they went right , the subs on what I watched said South America but the map showing the route of their plane had it going to southern Mexico)? Even the janitor didn't have a hispanic name. I know the Japanese know enough about foreign names to know the difference between hispanic and German sounding names.

Episode 2

So in explaining everything that happened, Mary's tears are just pure water caused by condensation. As for the murders, Hiraga figures out that they are all according to what the stain glass does with the death of the martyrs. Then there's a cross that indicates a code that, and footprints revealed through the use of luminol, and Hiraga figures out the killer murdered Klaus with the Virgin Mary statue, and then washed it until it was really cold and then used heat to generate tears. That was quite an elaborate scheme pulled off by the killer, but nevertheless there's nothing that Hiraga can't figure out.

I'm not sure how I feel about the show so far now...

I like the mystery revolved around the murder though and for the characters, it's interesting at how they take their approach at dealing with it. Music remains a strong highlight into this show. Probably one of the best OST of this season imo.

Well at least they explained all the German names, guess we'll have to wait and see what the deal is with all the devil worship. Kind of odd reason for the priest not to want them to examine the dead founders room "his spirit resides in there", uh aren't you Catholic and believe his spirit went to heaven (or purgatory if you're old school). I wonder if this is going to be the only "case" this season or they're going to resolve it and move on to another one?

This show makes me nostalgic for Cadfael. That's kind of it.
