Mahamut's new position allows him to use all the knowledge he gained as a spy and turn the world into a giant chess board. I really enjoy this plot progression. It somewhat reminds me of the MC from Alderamin on the Sky.

I like this anime quite a bit. I'll confess I thought it was going to be pretty awful at first, but rather refreshingly it's actually trying to do something a bit different from the majority of stuff out there. Underrated series so far IMO, shame it's not getting much recognition considering how different it seems.

Episode 15

And the Turks make another ally with Urado up in the North. This is a closed-off country that has been suffering, but Mahmut discovered a hidden resource that is the key to turning the country's outlook around. They come in the form of fossilized bird droppings that make for some high grade fertilizer. Mahmut is being resourceful as ever, and it is thanks to Abiriga knowing what that stuff is that he was able to use that to leverage Urado to joining the Turks rather than the Empire. So first Venice and now Urado joins forces as they will need all the help they can get to defeat the Empire, and Mahmut is the one guy who can make that happen.

Doesn't take much to be sent to the execution block. Lives saved by ancient bird droppings – never know what will happen next in this show. Lol.

ps, Sneezing during the dark intro card was a cute bit of unexpected humor.

Episode 16

It's back to Turkey where everybody is getting ready for the big war coming. They got allies on three sides, which is a big help, but there's the matter of L'isolani, which has great military strength and they put out a blockade that is going to be problematic as it will make other nations side with the Empire. Things sure are about to get intense now that the empire has made its move. This is pretty much setup as war is about to happen. The Empire got the ball rolling, but it will be awhile before they make contact with the Turks, so in the meantime there's lots of planning.

Episode 16 was a good buildup episode. The Empire will be a force to fear given what their powers are capable of.

Meanwhile, I hope they adapt some of the upcoming battles faitfully as I really look forward to them. The world building of this show continues to impress me.

Episode 17

With the Empire on the move, Mahmut continues to gather allies to put war to a screeching halt. For that, they go see the Gonfaloniere and seek help from Fiore, but the problem is that Turks are pretty unpopular in Fiore. So the guys are dressed up in Shakespearean-style outfits to see Caterina with Suleyman, and Mahmut notices something is up with Caterina flirting with Suleyman. As it turns out, they realize that Caterina had no intention of negotiating of them, but Caterina's feelings for Suleyman are genuine. And then the message gets out that Scoglio has fallen. In the end, Fiore decides to be a neutral party siding with neither the Empire nor the Turkish alliance. Quite a setback that was failing to get Fiore to join given their critical location. It will be interesting to see how Mahmut responds to this.

Episode 18

Just when it looked like all hope was lost and the Turks couldn't mobilize into Fiore, the situation quickly changes, and it is all thanks to that brave man who sacrificed his life to get the word out that Scoglio has fallen. Without that piece of info, things would have just crumbled like that as Fiore was determined to remain neutral in this conflict. And then Mahmut continues to build his country’s network by adding El Toro as this Spanish place joins after Mahmut wins a mock battle and offers to buy their entire army. Pretty much, this was all about gathering allies as the Empire nears. That was a pretty good setup episode here as war approaches.

Episode 19

Despite not being a very rich place, Chielo sure is quite generous when it comes to welfare as their environment is extremely ideal for agriculture, while they are located on a port so that they have lots of trading going on. And with the Empire on the attack, the Turks have added them to their alliance for the final feliz. And then Vasco comes to Halil with the blueprints for a weapon that could turn the tide, but Halil wants nothing to do with it. So Mahmut has a plan to turn Chielo into a cage for the imperial soldiers, and the town is set ablaze. But it didn't quite get the desired result as only part of the army was caged while a number of soldiers thought better of it and avoided getting boxed in. War sure is in full swing, and it just won't be easy to outsmart them.

Episode 20

That plan failed, and now Halil's unit comes under attack by Pino's unit right outside Chielo while everybody else is holing themselves in. Pino's army sure is well-organized there, and they led Halil into a trap where all Halil wants to do is to avoid conflict, but the Imperials aren't quite as accommodating. Just a brutal episode that was seeing Halil fall and then have his head on a skewer to let everybody know that their head Pasha has been KIA'd. And now, it's Mahmut's turn to step in and fill in some big shoes now that his mentor has bit the dust it will be interesting to see what his next move is. Mahmut sure has grown a lot since Halil stripped his Pasha title ad now it is time to prove his worth because Turkey's future is at stake after all that.

Episode 21

Things go from bad to worse after Halil was killed as now Venice couldn't send reinforcements. But just leave it to Mahmut to come up with a brilliant strategy to go after the food and using the animals to break the Empire's formation. And then the tide turns in a big way when he has the Spanish army waiting by the river as he draws the Imperial army to a place where they can ambush them just like they did with Halil's army, but this time they are the ones being ambushed with the Spanish army. Quite a turnaround not only in he tide of the war, but in Mahmut's character as he certainly has grown into someone who can hold his own.

Episode 22

Mahmut's strategy worked like a charm as they gave the imperial army a taste of their own medicine. While the imperial army has numbers, that's just about their only advantage as the alliance has them all figured out with help from the Spaniards. With the battle lost, the imperial army turns their attention to Spain, and now another big battle is about to begin. Those guys sure did show Lilly and company, and using peasants to help out was another great move seeing that they are all about their country. And now, the war is about to reach its climax.

Mahmut impressed me from these latest episodes.

Even at his rank, he still has his natural charisma and his combat skills isn't bad either. I also kinda liked the violence they adapted from episode 22. Really goes to show what death means on the battlefield.

Not many episodes left but I expect the next battle to be even more exciting.
