I hear ya and I've been very disappointed that Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin isn't getting a full adaptation. So yeah! I don't watch anime as much as I used to and I'll stick to older anime. I don't like slice of life either, I'm more of an action comedy fanboy (such as Swat Kats, anti-heroic yet epic and hilarious or something with the 2002 Spiderman movie's feel, badass and lighthearted).

Shoukoku no Altair (Adventure/Fantasy)
Princess Principal

Saiyuuki Reload Blast
Battle Girl High School
Hina Logi ~from Luck & Logic~

Marvel Future Avengers
Boku no Hero Academia 2
Re:Creators
Shingeki no Bahamut: Virgin Soul
One Piece
Dragon Ball Super

Every single one of these are action and/or adventure and are currently airing this season.
All bolded ones are currently airing on Crunchyroll.
Pretty sure there are plenty in the action/adventure category.

You need to bold Princess Principal too, the action in that was great. Probably Fate too. And definitely Bahamut.

I only bolded things airing on Crunchyroll. But yeah Princess Principal was definitely a surprise for me.

Ok now a good time to say that it was light on good action anime? or am i going to get jumped again by people that are saying. OMG its like not even over yet! You dont know what will be released.... blah blah. out of the list you posted Grauger i would say 3 of them on crunchy and 1 on other, Knights and magic, Boku no Hero Academia 2, Isekai wa Smartphone to Tomo ni.... I was trying to make the point that this pales in comparison to the multitude of slice of life shows that have been taking over. It used to be we got mostly action anime with a couple of the others, this has changed drastically into mostly slice of life. Mememe1930 I was not acting like a brat, being told over and over with almost no care about it other than to jump on the i like it so you MUST like it bandwagon to try something that i knowingly do not like is akin to saying punch yourself in your face, you might like it because thats what everyone likes now.

Sorry was this a funny icebreaker or no? I can't tell, too much Reddit makes my brain go stupid.

There's definitely ebbs and flows to genre balance with what's recently passed and what's still in the pipeline; I was really interested in that at one point and tried mapping genre trends season over season starting in the early 90s, but there was so much genre overlap and so many cascading categories that I gave up almost immediately. I think most of the action we get is from shounen, which is also interesting. Shounen tends to go through an evolutionary leap every couple years and it's possible we simply didn't have enough solid candidates going into the production cycle to fall in with this season. Although that would require some analysis. I don't think that's a long term problem in itself though, just a sign of where the genre was at the inception of this production cycle and how the chips landed.

This would also take analysis to verify, but I don't think it's exactly that action is being pushed aside by other genres, either. I'm pretty confident market over-saturation is a very real risk with anime since it tends to target niche demographics for a lot of revenue per capita. We saw this in 2016 when harem anime literally dropped dead for an entire season after the genre had starved to death carving up its audience with too many titles leading up to it before slowly coming back at a more moderate rate. Verifying this would require research as well, but I also suspect that an action show that can compete with current standards requires a pretty grand pooling of talent and really good studio infrastructure, which not very many studios can provide. So "easier" SoL anime "fill the void" each season.

So, my hypothesis:
* Shounen went through a growth spurt in the last couple years (Troyca shows, OPM, MS100%, MHA, etc.) which hiccuped the genre production cycle and changed the landscape quite a bit.
* Genres that appear to be encroaching are held in check by the checks/balances of market saturation.
* Action shows, to succeed, require more resources/infrastructure which limits output more than other genres.
* Other genres, which need lower returns or focus on revenue from different streams, then fill in the season.

None of which I can personally verify, I simply suspect. But if true those other genres push against each other a lot more than against action series, while action series are simply capped at the moment by output capacity. Looking ahead I can see some quite promising TBD action anime (OPM2, AoT3, Overlord 2, Drifters 2, Fate/Extra, FMP:IV, Basilisk 2, etc.), which seem to indicate the trend of big name shows by big name studios with longer production cycles and pretty damn high production standards that are difficult to compete with, especially when the genre itself has recently essentially undergone a gen upgrade that likely narrows the scope of potential series that could compete with the current competition standards. And a rather curious bottoming out of sci-fi at the moment, which is intriguing.

But yeah, I think it's just flux rather than other genres encroaching. If you were to track action shows over the past 5-10 years I suspect you wouldn't see one "action" category that's trending down/being throttled by other genres, but rather that last-gen shounen is trending down, current-gen shounen is trending up (but not nearly in full swing yet, or matching the same output capacity), and currently coinciding with a downswing in sci-fi which... I have no idea why really. Of course this also hinges on what you consider to be an action anime, my implicit definition for this post (essentially a sports formula, but with the main attraction swapped to violent conflict) is quite a bit stricter than casting a net for any anime that happens to have an action element in it. For that you pretty much have to wait and see each season.

Now looking back I'm not sure if this post is on topic or if it turned into a tangent; oh well. Such is life.

But anyway I picked up Shigurui last week to sate my blood lust for the season and so far that's gone down perfectly.

I mean it was pretty great for action. We have(On CR only) MHA, Knight's and Magic, Touken Ranbu and Boruto is continuing.

Then outside of CR we just had Gundam build fighters GM counterattack and Battlelog 1 uploaded by SUNRISE for FREE on Youtube.

That's just for action too. Lots of great other shows. Sucks you limit yourself like that. I was like that when I was in my early teens too though, so I guess we all have this phase?

Well sure, if you completely move the goalposts. I doubt that there are many people here that will disagree that it's disappointing to see so many great shows locked away on difficult-to-access streaming services rather than Crunchyroll. But that's not what you were complaining about before the season.

I'm so far behind it's rare for me to watch something recent/current airing, I'm almost always a season (or more) behind. I try to always watch something current, but I still enjoy that binge feeling as well. but I have to agree I am seeing a lot of the same ole genre, but I'm still seeing the genre that interest me coming out such as horror, scifi and action, so I'm not going to give up, there's always next season

Horror I feel can be a legit tough anime genre to be a fan of, those really don't get made very often.

Hey-o not my problem you don't watch shows on other sites. There's still good action anime airing this season, you're just not watching it.
