According to Wiki, it's a slice of life comedy. So it'll probably just mostly be another high school comedy with a horse woman.

was kinda cute, seemed to have undercurrent darker themes. i'd like it if it explored those and wasn't just cute monster girls doing cute monster girl things

which is ok long as it isn't super sexualized -_-

IDK, hopefully this anime doesn't result in a pro-Chinese Communism Ideology Propaganda piece; at least the premise is thereof as seen below:

As this narration is the core supportive basis for why China is communist, why the "West" is bad, using an alternative evolutionary world history ("monsters") characters as a metaphorical reference. Yes, some "Bernie Sanders supporters" may find the idea appealing; nevertheless, this gives government ultimate power and no individual freedoms/life, as long as the implied "whole" of civilization is saved. You are "expendable", that is. But then under such 1984 style world, would it be worth living in, of course?

So it does seem this anime is indeed political; I assume the main girls will find themselves "in conflict" with this ideology, and what will result should be interesting. Of course, Haoliners could be using this piece to counter communism by promoting a "pro-liberalism" message, defying the Chinese censors.

Indeed, as if you are "allergic to politics", you should back away from this title veeery slowly, then turn, and "run, not walk" to nearest exit. It seems this one will be a ride, it is so...

No, it is not meant to be a short and is based off a full length manga series. Episode 1 of the anime adapted two chapters from volume 1 of the manga, which has five chapters total. It also skipped the somewhat controversial opening chapter...

I read the manga and can tell you you will get cute monster girls doing cute things and a lot of political and societal exploration as well.

This has it's cute moments, but by and large this just feels boring. And I generally like slice-of-life shows. This just kind of feels like they're painting plotlines by numbers without investing enough energy to make anything interesting for more than a few key scenes. And the politics inserts don't flow with the lackadaisical flow of the rest of the show and feel almost completely removed from everything else the characters do. Who knew a post-Animal Farm world could be so boring?

A decent slice-of-life centering around a group of friends whom happen to be monster girls. What I am more interested in though, is what is going on in the background. It is like the whole 'cutesy' aspect of the show is more of a cover up for something perhaps more sinister happening. Heck, the goat/lion girl was afraid to get on centaur girl's back out of fear of being arrested. Doubt it will go too deep into this, but there are government officials monitoring what is being taught in the classroom, nearly breathing down the teacher's neck. I guess in that respect it reminds me a little of Shimoneta, except the students are more aware of what is actually going on.

Overall, it was cute. I found the three main girls to be very likable (Kyoko especially. I could relate to her.) and I like that certain troubles and benefits about being a centaur have been explored such as the stage part. Long story short, I will be continuing this show as, right now, I find it has just enough of a hook with politics brewing in the background and the exploration of different species to keep me interested.

Another really enjoyable episode split largely the same way last week was with one episode being the happy cute things episode and the second tackling more serious issues of equality and diversity. Solid stuff.

And I have to say that I never would have considered finding a Centaur attractive before but this show has changed my mind.

Edit: Oh, and I can't believe I forgot in some ways the best part of the episode. I loved that they just casually confirmed the relationship between the president's two friends without making a big deal out of it at all.

I like the subtle nods to the larger issues, like the soldier outside the Merfolk school.

That rather caught me off-guard. The casual way they spoke I expected it to be a teacher but then I noticed the rifle. =O

I liked the detail of the bottom of the merfolk's bathing suits having ties and such. Though them having legs split at the thighs then merging at the knees to become fins is an interesting if odd choice. To me it implies they are evolved from a branch of humanity that relatively recently returned to aquatic life. However I'm trying not to think too hard about it as we know the tails of fish are not legs but in fact the spine goes the entire length of the fish's body. But the choice makes for a more unique mer-character design and helps to explain how they could so easily remain upright.

There's something about this adaptation I'm not loving, but I can't really point my finger on it. They're adapting different chapters here and there, I don't recall the Merfolk chapter so early. It doesn't matter that much since they're really isn't an overarching story so whatever. Although I'm happy to see these two, they're cute.
