Also watched the second episode last night and yeah you can't read the sign proper in the anime but the sign at the Merfolk school in the manga says "Warning littering is against the law. Violators will be shot on sight." so yeah major dystopia.

Also Nichtmalda that wouldn't surprise me if it happened but for some reason I doubt it will. Also I find it interesting that a lot of the characters don't seem to be all that depressed over the state of the world other than some being more fearful then others. Then again I don't normally read dystopian stories so this could be par for the course of how they write characters for it.

There's something about this adaptation I'm not loving, but I can't really point my finger on it. They're adapting different chapters here and there, I don't recall the Merfolk chapter so early. It doesn't matter that much since they're really isn't an overarching story so whatever.

Yeah, they skipped chapter 0. Then did chapters 1 and 2 for episode one. Then did chapter 3 at start of episode two but then jumped all the way to chapter 7 in second half of episode two. Looking at the preview for next episode, they will be jumping around in the chapters again it seems. I'm not sure if they are skipping for controversial content and/or to make a more school setting narrative. In chapter 4 we missed

Episode 2

First part is about Hime working a part-time job, which is against school rules as she appears on a fashion magazine. It turns out that she didn't get paid and was only doing this because centaurs were needed. Of course, she's too shy to make a public appearance, so all is well for now. And then on a cold day, Hime and friends think back to the time they went to the mermaid's school for special lessons. And then a mermaid appears having trouble moving on land, with a super-expensive gadget available to walk in. Quite an amusing set of mini-episodes there seeing how quirky life is.

This week:

Kids say the darnest things. The episode. I have to admit though, they were cute as hell especially the triplets.

I will admit being a little worried about how they were going with the whole girls kissing bit but then they brought it back around perfectly.

This show continues to be really interesting with the mixing of the cute happy moments with the serious elements constantly hovering at the edges. I wasn't totally sure what to expect going in to this one as I'm not always a fan of monster girl stuff (barring the excellent Interviews with Monster Girls) but I have to say that this show has me really intrigued. A possible early but quiet contender for best of season in a fairly strong season overall.

A very fun episode. The series does an great job of handling some very delicate subjects.

The pants suit on the Centaur bugs me for some reason and I'm not sure what it is lol. It's a cute series though.

This is up there with Gamers! as a show that keeps surprising. Interesting to see that there're actual spirits in this world.

The world building continues to intrigue. I'm enjoying the way it just happens in the background, mostly. Apparently the (progressive) political propaganda extends to magical girl shows. (This seems to subtly occur in the show itself. While the one angel girl is depicted as physically weak, we're also shown another who can lift children in each arm and a leg!)

There's also the little touches, like lowering the ears when rinsing or dad's eyeglass frame, that really sell it. I was also impressed with the writing on the kissing segment.

I didn't expect the shadows of dystopia in this series, I must have missed it in the manga somehow. :O

Also the not-so-subtle subtext yuri between Hime and the demon-girl is pretty cute.

That was cute, think it's the best episode so far. I reread the manga and there is way more yuri then I remembered. Also I wonder if this adaption will adapt the more zany chapters although that isn't until a while. Anyways really enjoyed this episode.

Agreed. The only thing that really bothers me, especially after seeing the preview to Uma Musume, is that the clothes for all the people with tails don't have holes in them to accommodate said tails. I've even noticed on some of the girls the tails poke out from under the skirt hem. That's just a recipe for disaster.

The fascinating thing is that it may be a necessary dystopia (utilitopia?) for this world. (OK, the "shot for littering" stuff is too far, but you get my point.)

That is a surprising omission. Future plot point?

Damn that was a cute episode. The zakashi warashi was an unexpected twist, I wonder if it was the satyr girl.

I think an ep where they explain the biology of cross-breeding would be neat. Because it seems like Mitami's family is angel mom and cat dad..Unless they are from separate families...

Hopefully. Given how meticulous the series has been, that Hime's outfits all have an opening for her tail (as do all centaur's outfits we've seen thus far), and they even go so far as to show how the interior of a car has been designed to accommodate a centaur it's definitely a missed point. However this may be a "blind spot" in the anime and manga world when it comes to characters with tails who wear normal clothing. I've noticed a lot of the time they'll show the tail poking out between the shirt or coattail and waistband of whatever the character is wearing. This is simply anatomically incorrect as the tail bones of just about every mammal, including humans, extends well into the pelvis. This is further reinforced by a rare fetal abnormality in humans where they are born with a pseudo-tail.

Funnily enough Strike Witches is one of the few series to get this right
