Cute episode, that's always a flag. I guess that's to prep us for some real dark stuff next week.

Ah crap, you're totally right. This was a breather episode. I didn't recognize it for what it was because last week's episode fell kinda flat for me.

Buying the factory and getting extra work in addition to the military contract was some mission creep

What's the deal with the girl who just kept eating all day, what was her job supposed to be?

Princess Principal EP 4 "Roaming Pigeons"

The OP remimds me of Steamboy / HG Wells / Jules Verne

So my previous thought of L / being 007 M is pretty valid He warns Dorothy to keep an eye on Princess, as she might be a double agent

Ange trains Beatrice / Chise

Chise is on the fence to which side Japan should side on

The team has to retrieve a portable Cavorite device

There is a cermony at the mine where the device is worked on but it is moved

But Ange finds it is benig moved by boat A wild car ride and Princess kinda eases Dorothy concerns as she dives onto to the bost and the team recovers the device,

Princess Principal EP 5 "Bullet & Blade's Ballad"

Excellent EP The team has to protect a Japanes official from Jubei Chise;'s sworn enemy ( also her father ) She is confronted too as she boards the train but quicly find she is one of the allies.

Ange Chise work together to fight him as the others try to stop the train from derailment/

Chise was proud in defeating her father but was he died despite being a traitor

Princess Principal EP 6"Case 18 Rouge Morgue"

2 fathers dead now The team goes undercover at the morgue to recover infro hidden on a corspe A surprise Dorothy's father works there to and was tasked to look for the code by Franky / gang to pay off his dents

Dorothy's father was a good steam engineer until he lost his hand and abised her forcing her to leave

He tells how to find the body / they do and copy the cipher so he can pay his debts. Alsi to protect her as Franky wants to take her as a slave.

After he finds the code he goes to Gazelle to get money but is killed asking for more Meanwhile Franky and the gang het beatdown as try to collect Dorothy .

Dorothy's dad promised he would neet at the local pub but never shows as his body shows up at the morgue/

Princess Principal EP 7"loudly Laundry"

The team goes after Poision Jack an assasian that uses gas to eliminate enemies .To do this they go undercover at a laundry factory to test mikitary clothes as the gas is stored within the wall inside barracks

While there the girls see the workers have burns scars from the place having old and dangerous equipment as Chise helps onr girl who catches fire.

We have the return of Franky and his gang extorting money from the foreman money that is needed to fix things

To m ake matters worse Franky says he wiil shut the mill down But for the workers it is a steady job and income

Princess goes in and says she wiil but the place Franky is going to rough her up but Ange steps in and its over

Princess not only wants the laundry time but make a profit fix the machines / make the work flow better / signs to help those cant read well and make it safe.

So she buys it

Thhe workers are amazed that the spies fixed everything Not onlty that easier and got done early

Next step find more clients more income / better pay and they clean up and get business So the team hellps a couple if girls look good and go out and find new clinets

The business increases 231 % but the Colonel is not happy but the others say D / Dorothy thought it was important

Later at the barracks a solider that seems to be the culprit ask where is uniform is and they say the laindry came and collected it ( he did his own)

They find the uniform Private Ricard who has come to the factory He is going to arrack the Princees but Chjise stops him then he pulls out gas and Marilla is there and Chise has to take him down but Marilla is kind hurt Chise was not who she said she was as they became friends .

The team dont return with thier mission complete / however Princees come in says she is done as foremen and prmoyes Marilla who at first object but hears the others what they would do and accepts Mariila tells Princes to tell Chise she dont know about her but recties Chise's Motto Dont Let It Beat You

It says it right in the title. This was Case 16. Last episode was Case 18, meaning it's currently the furthest ahead chronologically.

Huh. I didnt relize. Hardly paid attention to the case numbers as I didnt think they ment anything really. Figured it was just a current numbering system not the cases they had specifically worked on. I assumed there were other spies around.

Why would the show jump around haphazardly like that then? Seems kinda annoying.

I suspect that a full answer to this question will have to wait until the anime is finished. But so far, the writers are using the non-linear story structure to raise questions for the viewer that get resolved in subsequent episodes that are chronologically sooner. For example, episode 1/case 13 raises the questions of why the Princess is working with Commonwealth spies, and how Beatrice is able to imitate a particular man's voice perfectly. These mysteries are answered in Episode 2/Case 1 and Episode 3/Case 2, respectively. Presenting the cases in chronological order would have lessened the impact of the eventual reveal because the question was never raised in the viewer's mind before it was resolved. Using a story structure that allows for these types of reveals makes sense in a series about spies, deceit and mysteries. I would expect to see a lot more reveals that shed greater light on chronologically later episodes that we've already seen. For example, I could totally see a future episode cover a case 12 in which Ange's mission is to infect the defector's sister with Cavorite poisoning, putting the lie to her statement that she doesn't know whether it was an accident or not.

Another thing they may be using it for is pacing. Above, it was pointed out that the most recent episode feels like a breather episode after a fairly sombre one. Now, currently it's not clear why it's necessary for the chronology to be different from the episode order here, but that may become obvious after a few episodes (personally, I don't think that we're done with the loan shark by a long shot, and his future role in the story may require the events of the last two episodes to have happened in a particular order)

Episode 8

The history between Ange and Princess is explained during a case where they were on a stakeout, and that's how they ended up switching places. Princess was Ange from the slums and she had to learn quite a lot from piano skills to learning languages from zero, all while Ange went into the slums and realized just how bad things were in the slums. Then the palace was attacked and that was that. Quite an interesting story that was. And as for the case, it turns out that the mysterious woman is Gazelle, which is a bad thing as she's the Duke's closest ally. And Julie did take the advice to heart to strike from the front.
