This is an interesting topic. I think Japan shouldn't take in refugees at all no matter the population decline. If the government really needs people to reproduce, they'll find a way. Probably some sort of tax benefit. Saying Japan is rather conservative, I doubt they'll take in refugees for the time being and I, personally, think that's a good idea.

Just needs a bit of Terraforming

Hey Japan can do what they want. As long as the anime keeps coming.

That's the credible alternative to CNN, I see

Quit reading just headlines and read the actual quotes from the person.

Japan has a low birthrate and no one to care for the elderly. If only there were people who would be willing to have babies and work in nursing homes People from outside the islands who escaped war and are looking for a better life. They might not fit perfectly in but they work hard and get the job done with a little assistance. INB4 you say that Japan needs ethnic Japanese babies.

Japan has no problem accepting immigration, But I agree with Japan. Bringing in skilled workers good legally at a slow pace good... bringing in millions of refugees that don't want to work, and are unwilling to evolve to their new societies is bad. That simple.

The refugees are not willing to meld into other countries.

Just look at what is going on in Germany and other parts of the UK.

I admire his response and I'm so glad Japan won't take any refugees. Every country has its problems but I find that Japan and South Korea are very peaceful nations compared to the west. Little children can walk to school or go to places alone and nothing bad will happen to them. I noticed that this is because they are not multicultural and I hope they stay that way. We only have to look at what's happening to Europe with their refugee problem, I don't want the same to happen to Japan. They have enough problems already and their culture is sooooo different to Muslims'

I will die the day I hear that Japan is becoming an Islam-majority country like it's happening to the UK.

Where would they put them, anyway? Out in the rice paddies? In the rural areas? In the jobless cities? On the uninhabitable islands?

The rice fields.

Frankly, I'm fascinated to learn that the United Nations can still keep up some capacity of authority or sway in this day and age.

Even though it's the title of the linked article, the thread title seems overly inflammatory and misleading. Nowhere in the article did Abe tell the UN to , 'shove it'.

Also, what is he supposed to mean by more activities by "elderly" in relation to the birthrate?

It's politically and geographically impossible for what's "happening" to Europe to happen to America.

Buying into the political alarmists doesn't help anyone.

Outright refusing to do what the UN is telling them to do is a polite way of saying the same intent.

The Japanese birth rate is so bad that very few will be paying for the social services the many elderly will be using. Life spans are increasing and its breaking the whole taking care of the elderly model without raising taxes to ungodly levels which will hurt the youth.
