If we go back to my first ever anime, Tenchi Muyo (and pretend space is an isekai), that's just a long history of unsatisfying endings, not to mention annoying harem members.

I read that there's very little tension/drama/conflict at all in this story, it's a harem slice of life in another world. So if you're going to recommend something else instead, what are some other shows like that? I don't need it to be funny or unique. Being "plain white toast" makes it unique from most other comparable shows I've seen.

I'm not expecting much romance either, but one of the girls becomes the MC's fiancée; to find out which see this: http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/anime-spotlight/2017/summer/in-another-world-with-my-smartphone/.118058

Maybe it will pick up but even the slice of life aspect seemed really... plain.

Here is one series that I remembered when thinking about this :

https://myanimelist.net/anime/6979/Shukufuku_no_Campanella

To be fair, as vanilla as that is, it's still more eventful than this episode was. Like I'd say Campanella is maybe 90% this 10% Konosuba, just with a lot more fanservice.

Then there is the most brain dead anime in the history of anime

https://myanimelist.net/anime/12367/Shining_Hearts__Shiawase_no_Pan

Shining Hearts is a funny little anime, it's funny because you can consider it a slice of life / rpg anime which sets up a lot of mysteries, but never actually solves them. It's based on an old PSP game btw. The hilarious thing is though, that to understand Shining Hearts, you have to play a spin-off / sequel / prequel (Im not exactly sure which it is) called Shining Blade, which is actually it's own JRPG with an unrelated story to Shining Hearts overall, but it solves Shining Hearts' mystery as a sort of a side plot point.

I'll put it in spoilers but this is NEVER revealed in the anime itself, nor even really in the base game of Shining Hearts, it's basically mentioned upon in Shining Blade.

Thanks Shining Hearts is in my watch list under 2019. I just added Campanella to my Funimation 2018 list.

following yet not following the tropes of Re:Zero and Konosuba. Still enjoyable but this what... the second "stranger in another world" show? felt like the episode went a little fast but again found enjoyable.

Haven't yet seen the anime adaption but im guessing it's shit since it got a 7.2 on MAL and the novel is a legit masterpiece.

Clothes selling man buying everything the kid is wearing, thus giving him some walking around money? The kid rolling with being dead and sent to another world?

If this is 'lukewarm water', it is still something I would rather drink than black coffee vodka, because RE:Zero was raw sewage.

Perhaps there's a reason the MC is so OP... Because having everything granted up front leaves the rest of the season with nothing but pleasant strolls, bunny hops and ice cream parlors. How about: *phone drops* *crack* *gate opens* Then the one-way view into MC's previous world turns in on itself and the party is sucked elsewhere for lots of exciting challenges and discovering the "secret" of the world... Yes, just dreaming, but I hope the writers can bless us with some creativity in episode 2 because God overdid it in episode 1.

Ehhhhh the first episode isn't doing it for me tbh. The MC is way too accepting of dying and being sent to a new world. I thought the pacing was really quick. One thing really surprised me though, there isn't an iota of fanservice in the first episode. I'll probably watch the next episode tho.

Also one of the sisters is wearing some type of magical skirt short hybrid, that changes from the skirt shorts to a normal-ish skirt then to shorts.

mmm a harem anime thats is trying too much to make it more interesting , he died, he got powers from God, he got his phone wish granted and now he is on a quest.. with 2 girls and then more.

I might watch a few more just to see what is going to happen but there is nothing of substance in this show

The best example I know of is Desumachi aka Death march Rhapsody to a parallel world.

A few series I have read having MCs become OP from the beginning, and they are mainly SOL adventure. Guess it is becoming trend now.

When Death March to the Parallel World Rhapsody comes out, I guess it will get a lot of hate.

Oh no! Long Tress's shorts sometimes looks like a skirt, but not really! Short Bob, save us with your refreshing purple thighs!

They'll probably be fighting living mountains before you know it, and without a convertible.

Thanks, I'll watch that whenever it comes out :)

I've seen several people say that the source material is much better than this show. I'm like, whatever man, if I'm going to read something it'll be more of Dante's Divine Comedy or another C.S. Lewis book I haven't got to.

Well, that's nice. My favorite and most watched anime genre is Cute Girls Doing Cute Things, most of which get exactly the same reactions as this - "Oh no, yet another of these, nothing interests me here" - you're not the target audience.

I'm not so much a fan of harems compared to when I was a teenager, I only picked up this show because I looked at the cute girls in the poster and couldn't resist, but if I'm going to watch one then OP MC is definitely my preference. Obviously he's going to come off as a "Gary Stu," Tenchi was a perfect boy to an obscene extreme and defeated the final boss in one hit, that's expected. Having a flawed or weaker MC doesn't interest me at all. If I want to experience The Hero's Journey, I'll rewatch, say, LotR / Star Wars / Spider-Man 2 / The Incredibles / The Lion King / Batman Begins. Not anime. None of my favorite anime characters are male.

...Except Vampire Hunter D. And Monmon the water spider, but he's a spider.

Shorts are comfy and easy to wear, of course. Or are they skorts, in this case?

I have to say I actually enjoyed the first episode. I also appreciate how it just cold opened to "sorry you're dead my bad" basicly. Also to me it felt like God made him a little bit OP due to him just asking for something basic like his phone and also handling the situation so well when he learned he died because of a screw up by God XD. Overall I think the show has the chance to be entertaining, funny show to watch this season.
