Synopsis

Nike, a boy from the Boering Village village, is forcefully sent along on a quest to defeat the Devil King after his Hero-worshipping parents see a posting from the king summoning potential heroes.

Following the village's traditions, he visits the magical old lady where he is entrusted with caring for a young girl named Kukuri, who can use the mysterious Guru Guru magic. According to the old woman's claims, Kukuri is the last survivor of the Migu Migu clan who wield Guru Guru, and she has been waiting for a Hero to appear.

It will be a journey filled with laughter, and occasional tears. And now the classic fantasy featuring a slacker Hero and a naive young Mage begins unfold!

I've never read/seen the original manga/anime, so I didn't have any real expectations and mostly watched this on a whim. I've gotta say though, it was surprisingly hilarious. I like that the show occasionally slips into retro-JRPG graphics, and I enjoy the more zany humor it's got going on. I'm sure I'll be checking it out next week.

I've seen a fair bit of both of the previous anime and it's always been a pretty cute and silly show.

Damn that dancing old man though

seriously ...that guy is nothing but problems.

I think I remember seeing a few eps of the original long ago. it was just as silly as this.

Hero goes on a journey (by force) with mage(who is kicked out) to defeat Ganon! er evil!

Hm this scene seem familiar somehow

This. This right here.

I haven't seen any other material on this series before this, but I have found this first episode to be the most comedic, engaging, and inventive when compared to most of the comedies this season. Also, I love the Dragon Quest feel this has and the character designs are adorable!

Such an oddball show. In the first few minutes, I thought I accidentally clicked a gaming playthrough. That said, this was surprisingly entertaining. Maybe its the mix of fantasy and comedy, but I felt a slight (sillier) Slayers vibe from this.

Episode 1

That was a fairly silly episode there. The homer is pretty good, and I especially like the way things are set up to resemble an 8-bit RPG. The part where Nike draws a sword so big that he can't even wield it is really funny, all while Kukuri has some crazy spells. Anyway, I probably won't stick with this show for long as I just wasn't all that enthused about this show, but I'll give it another episode or two.

I watched the first episode of the 90s version right before this and thought the older one did its humor and pacing a lot better. Doesn't look like the reboot has any ambitions so I'll pass.

Episode 2

This episode is just the butt of jokes here. From that creepy old man dancing to the thoughts of somebody's butt. Mig and Kukuri get kidnapped along with that old man that nobody wants to see again, but it turns out his dances hold a secret power in them. That was pretty crazy with the weakness too long to be explained and all.

I love this show. The secret boss weakness made me laught for real (most show just give me a smile... with guru guru I was not able to breath for several seconds).

I loved both the original anime, but this reboot it's just amazing!

And the opening! It's just amazing.

Episode 2:

Oh dear, the old man.

The new characters were great, especially Mig. The poor girl really needs to work on her makeup skills though - not that I am any better. I adored the boss scene in this and the video game troupes continue to amuse the hell outta me. Again, I have to say, this is one of my favorite shows of the season so far and I hope it continues to be so.

This episode was just what I needed to watch after work.

Yay! Crack time!

So what's in the crackpipe this week?

A doomed town Nike wants nothing to do with, a disgusting old man doing a dirty dance in a straw skirt, a dungeon quest to slay monsters in the stardust mines, annoying village kids, shifty rat men that talk big but are early-game one-hit-point wonders that get killed by a stray spell, a whole buttload of Dragon Quest references, the dumbest boss monster since Ultros, and Nike getting some upskirt action, heheh.

Kukuri is nothing but a butt now!

Oh, and speaking of butts, Kukuri learns a new magic spell from an old man's butt.

Man, I love this freakin' show.

I've been following this show. It's been great so far actually as it takes an unique approach at the story and characters.

Anyone else got RPG feeling from this? I also really appreciate the comedy in this show as it feels done just right.
