This is an example of what studies think will likely happen: a class is told that all students will receive the same grade on an exam, based on the class average. So say half the class gets A's and half the class gets C's, then everyone ends up with a B. Then exam two comes up, and everyone gets C's. The students who originally got C's, but were given higher grades of B's, gave the same amount of effort on the second exam as the first. The students who originally got A's, but were given lower grades of B's, gave less effort on the second exam due to their work not being rewarded.

When everyone is given the same share regardless of effort, the desire to excel drops dramatically. It's like the whole "everyone gets trophies" debate. Obviously, not all cases would end up like that example, but it's believed to be the norm.

Because they're not being punished harshly for the class doing poorly, then made to live together so that they can yell at the ones dragging the class down.

Just modifying their grade serves no purpose by itself except to confuse/irritate them.

Guys Guys Guys! This is another case of waited for the next episode so we can have a better conversation when we get more information on how everything REALLY works(this is not a spoiler, I never heard of the show until now im just sayin).

Since I pissed everyone off with my real-world vibes. Let's change the subject on the forum for a quick sec to money spending and what ifs.

The question is WHAT WOULD ALL OF YOU HAVE DONE WITH RECEIVING ALL THAT MONEY? Answer Truthfully, i know we are behind computers and can act like we are Saint's etc.

Me personally I would of been more like the main character, really question such a large income of cash and would of been really cautious to spending any at all until I get a full picture of the situation. I'm not sure to what extent on the items they were allowed to bring but let's say its only clothes on their backs and extra civilian clothes, toothbrush and toothpaste, deodorant, pens and pencils, notebook, and shaving items boys and um other woman needs . So I would try to get only basics items and spend money on food with no snacks etc. Until at least 3 or 4 months, sure if friends or others wanted to hang out I would spend a bit more but as little as I can. Until I see a all clear or a shocking Revelation on how it all works.

Unlike most of you I actually have been in a situation like this, when I went to military basic training we all receive only $200 dollars for a EIGHT AND A HALF WEEKS, sure we don't have to pay for food, but that money goes mostly to toiletry(baby wipes, soap, shaving cream, razors, a watch, sewing kit, pens, pencils, stationary to write home etc.) and items to maintain your equipment. You had zero extra and I forgot you had to buy certain things. Oh well. If you ran out of money too fast, you were screwed.

Anyways, I didn't realize the guy had taken up TWO SEATS, I may not of given a seat up but im not a complete dick and take up two seats, heck I think that might be against bus regulations because you store bags in a overhead or under seat. I would not of done what he did.

LETS DEBATE ON WHAT WE WOULD ALL DO WITH THAT 100,000 YEN ONLY KNOW WHAT THE CHARACTERS KNEW!

I finally got around to the first episode, and I thought it was great. I'm not usually a fan of high school characters who are super unrealistic and spout off all that philosphical BS, but Idk I thought the main character was actually kind of funny here. I don't like the other loner girl though. The soundtrack was great, and I think that's the main reason why I got so pumped up and why I'm excited for the next episode. The plot is pretty interesting so far, and I am looking forward to seeing how it will all play out.

Between them and Mari on Fastest Finger it's been a nice change of pace from the usual overacting in anime.

Can you give an example?

I really like how the main character seems very intelligent compared to everyone else. And the girl is similar. Anime like this are like my favorite

A couple of major flaws I noticed.

1. Only $1,000 a month? How do students survive off this? My personal trainer costs this much alone.
2. Shouldn't they all have done research on the school before enrolling. They all should've known that their monthly stipend was determined by performance from blogs, etc from the start.

Bonus: That asshole was sitting in the disabled priority spot on the bus. Instead of asking for a volunteer, she should've kicked him out of his seat by force.

Otherwise, I think I can enjoy the show if I turn my brain off.

I'm really interested in Horikita. I hope that she really is the type of person that prefers to be alone and it's not just a front. It'd be nice to have a character I can relate to on that level. Some people seem to think that if you like to be alone a lot and do things by yourself, there's something wrong with you. But really, it gives me the freedom to go where I want, do what I want and then leave when I want without having to worry about others.

Honestly, it's people like Kushida who I find a bit strange. Don't get me wrong, I love bubbly people, because they're easy to talk to. But her need to be friends with everybody - particularly Horikita - kind of rubs me the wrong way. Now, I can appreciate it if she genuinely just doesn't want Horikita to be alone or have only one friend for the next 3 years. But when Horikita has clearly turned her down, it's disrespectful to set her up just to try to make friends with her. I really don't trust her at this point.

As for Ayanokoji, I appreciate that he's straightforward. He doesn't overreact to things, but he's also not so bland that I can't get anything out of him. I think he might shape up to be an enjoyable character.

This show has a lot of potential, I just hope it goes somewhere.

1. I live on $1000 a month with $200 left over........and i induldge in buying video games etc with rent etc their accommodation is provided by the school so that's not a worry.

2. Yes and no it's a closed school we don't know how much access to the outside world they have and not many people really research schools that intensely no one that i have known atleast it's not surprising for a whole class to show up and find out some rules they never though existed (happened back in high school with some stuff)

3. Kicking him out would of been just as dickish and made both of them in the wrong he honestly as much as he should move was not breaking any laws or doing anything legally wrong so kicking him out of his seat by force would make her in the eyes of the law in danger for being introuble (assault).

How where they unrealistic? High schoolers can spout alot of philosophical bullshit esspecialy those in higher classed (for more intelligent people) seen it happen at my high school in the past.

These people seem rather realistic to me based on my experiences.

Um no. Unless your experiences are completely different from mine, which I suppose is possible, then it is in no way realistic. I mean, you can't really expect any anime to be completely realistic because that just doesn't happen, and it doesn't mean the show is bad. I don't see how you can argue that it is realistic though. Most high schoolers aren't even that smart, but even if they are, they don't talk to each other like that. It was the same with Oregairu. Like I said, it doesn't make the show bad in any way, but it is something that personally bugs me.

Well I was friends with a lot of local prodigies and my school has an elite program with very intelligent people.
So I don't know what school you went to but at my school we had a shit ton of intelligent students and some of them did talk like this that's why I think it's realistic.

Granted different places different experiences my childhood friend was in my classes "Zenith" program we used to be in the top classes and elite groups In primary school but I stopped caring.

Zenith program was literally just university level courses in high school most of the students have become very successful one girl I knew becoming a local artist with her paintings in gallery's.

I just assumed every school has a lot of people like that but if others peoples schools didn't the I can understand not seeing it as realistic.

Funny how different places are I guess and now I'm having memories of back in primary school before I had my seizure book review / writing classes where I met the people I knew good times

Interesting how this show highlights this exact difference.

After debating on watching this for several days I finally broke down and watched the full 1st episode. I must say I am not only impressed with the show, but also its ideals. My biggest thrill was (for once) the main MC being monotone/stoic actually is a plus for him in the show. Not standing out, being calm, and rational in such a situation is more likely to make him "the last man standing" instead of it being just an obnoxious character flaw.

I would also be really intrigued if a country ever allowed such a system to be tested. My personal guess would be the 100% employment/college acceptance would not be so far fetched. Personally, I just don't think you can compare this schools approach to grading everyone the same on a test. This isn't the case of your grade going up or down with no real consequences, the consequences of the collective in this case decide whether your able to wear nice clothes, or eat anything other then the provided meals. That said 100,000yen($887 currently) for a month is fairly extravagent for a high school student. When you consider their housing, school uniforms, and at least 1 meal a day(dorm life makes me think they provide 3) is provided its hard to fathom a student needing so much. That means 100,000 yen is for toiletries, entertainment, and treats(I.e. coffee, fast food, snacks).

I suspect if each episode is a months time(3 seasons possible at that rate). by the next episode or maybe episode 3 we will see some of the students true colors/motivations. That said this show could throw in a few twists such as adding personal attitude, or social skills as part of the merit system. Though mostly I hope this is true so D-bag guy on the bus doesn't succeed as a front runner. Also will be interesting to see if miss everyone is my friend takes a different path then it would seem everyone else thinks. Yes, its likely she will be a manipulator, or it could end up she is the one who tries to hold the class together when despair and rancor emerge. I have high expectations of this show and hope it doesn't let me down like KADO did.
