That's the kind of thing that bothers me, when characters act on third-party assumptions instead of being direct. And yes, I know I'm complaining about drops of water in the ocean here, but it really irks me to see characters act this way.

Well, join the "Frustrated Western Ppl Club" since yes, there is always a cultural shock about how Japanese ppl handle relationships. I understand the frustration, since many Japanese women and men don't consider to "confess" till it already passed like 6 months or so.

Plus, her whole "You were winning plushies for somebody else" thing is a big sore point for me. It's like she knows nothing about him except "He's good at winning plushies". Like that's his only character trait. I mean...what.

Imho, i think that even though we're westerns, we're putting too much of our own expectations and personal experiences in here.

Paraphrasing Hitch or any other romantic character: "wouldn't just be more simple if we come straight up and tell our hearts and wait to the other person to do the same? Wouldn't be so tough this way?!"

I believe is way more complex than that, we have crushes, but we always, as humans, need to calculate the risks. It's true, normally we over calculate till the point we lose our chance. But also, we cannot expect to all histories of love, including this one, to have the super-duper deep reason to be that way.

We can only assume that this girl in particular had a crush on the guy before the event we just witnessed; then, when he gave her the plushie, in her mind she totally sealed the deal. That happens? Of course!! Our expectations are way better than reality. On our heads, our want-to-be partners are way prettier and lovable than the actual real person.

So, do we need a really deep, over cheesy novel-like, romantic reason (like saving one's life and such) to explain why someone may fall in love to another person? Imho, I don't think so.

But then again, since this is all fiction we can have also our own expectations of how we want characters to fall in love. I believe this reason is totally plausible and refreshingly simple. Not to mention over cute, since she loves him for what he were before and not his forced version of what he is now.

This show just keeps surprising me. It fleshed out the cool guy and his GF and questioned the apparent message of the first episode. Plus, our hero is apparently inept at games, and not just not as good as club members.

I like surprises.

This is becoming quite enjoyable. I already really like Aguri. I loved how cute and energetic she was. Now, I like her even more. She is just a sweet girl even if gaming isn't really her thing. She was cuter with the black hair though imho . Still cute af though.

I REALLY want to know when we get to meet Chiaki though and see what she's like. but, the girl for next episode looks intense and interesting too.

I agree. First, the show completely ignored the inherent pitfall of it's cliche plot summary (hot girl asks no-body to a club) then it further pushed that idea into something that feels much more fresh then many of the other slice of life/Light novel style anime that have come out recently.

One of the biggest things that drives this show is the Japanese perception of what a gamer is. In Japan, gamers can be people who play in arcades, people who play Visual Novels, and people who play more traditional video games. I like that this show is making that distinction and using it to separate the different main characters.

This show just did more character development in the second episode than most shows do for seasons. Really enjoying seeing gamers fleshed out as people rather than walking tropes.

Ha, it's funny when characters in this show are more conscious of their feelings for someone else.

Good to know more about Uehara this week. That outburst to Amano was gold. Also, we got some Persona gameplay in an anime!

I loved that they had Persona in this episode! Some other recognizable games too!

I get the feeling, after this episode, I am going to be more invested in Uehara and Aguri as they are just adorable.

The scenes involving those two this week were absolutely fangirl worthy and I ship them hardcore. I look forward to more cute moments with them, though now I am wondering if Amano does join the Gaming Club, will these two join too? Maybe instead of joining the competitive gaming club they make their own casual one? I kind of want to see more of the senpai's though.

(I also get the feeling that Karen is going to be a bit like a more tamed Anna from Shimoneta when it comes to Amano. I don't know if I should be afraid for him or not.)

Sad to see that Niina is not going to be getting much more screen time, but other than that I have to agree with the general consensus in that this show definitely impressed this much more this episode than it did in the first. Characters that are actually interesting and have potential arcs for growth. An actual inclusion of some real world games and some thoughtful perspectives on gaming in general. Great stuff.

Oh, and that complete break down of newb fighting game players was so spot on it hurts. I've been in Tasaku's shoes there so many times.

Much stronger second episode. Surprised to find Uehara to be so likeable.

That footbridge scene was a little much though. I get that Amano is mad about the insult, but he pushes Uehera's upper body over the edge. That could've caused a rather serious incident. He didn't do it on purpose, but that actually makes it worse.

I didn't know what to expect with this series but I'm glad I decided to give it a try. I think there was more character development for Uehara in this one episode than some series give their MC over an entire cour.

Just want to say, these first 2 eps have been fantastic. The 2 characters have been shaped really well; the humor and references have been on point. I'm gonna enjoy this one. Looking forward to more of the cast.

This show caught me off guard, and struck deep for me. Amano fits me to a t, even down to baseless assumptions of other people. Lesson learned in the end, I had no idea I was like that.

Still cute with pink, but... damn.

I want more Aguri back story or else she is going to feel like too much of a prop to her boyfriend. And she is super cute so I really want to like her. Becuase right now she is just "I liked you before you were cool because you gave me a plushie." I liked her messed up bento though, but even that is the 'isn't it cute she isn't that good at cooking?' trope.

This show is so good I have to dig like this to have complaints.

I still don't like blonde popular girl. I still don't trust her.
