Another solid this episode this week.

The "punishment" was more like acceptance. The comedy duo obviously had problems if we see their personal lives. I personally thought the episode delivered its emotions really well considering that they are comedians.

I'm still curious about that new girl though...she's just so mysterious, even more than Ai.

Oh. Wow. Not-so-Subtext yuri and a twist on the suicide pact. That was really emotional and amazingly done.

I dont know, I went back and gave it the 5 episode try on the prior seasons hoping it will help me enjoy this new season and I still dont get the allure of this show, seemed repetitive and stale. It's like the laughing salesman with a cute girl in a kimono. I was waiting for some backstory or actual plot but its just the same human treating other human like shit and getting revenge for said treatment and rowing someone to hell. Is it always like this or will there be an actual story happening? I mean it cant be 26 episodes of the same shit over and over right? Just my 2 cents.

I wish they would do an arc where two people pull each other at same time.

Well this is an interesting one. Before criticizing this one I think it's important to note it's an older series very similar to how they did a late remake of the Parasyte series. This explains the old fashioned character art and unusual personality types that seem very unfamiliar in this age of super cliche characters. So far the thing that stands out the most to me is the animation and art. Interesting camera angles and scenes look great and there's a ton of subtle color sprayed around with that metaphorical meaning. Lots of foreshadowing as well. I can't quite say I like it yet, there's no persistent characters to like so far. We see our demon mafia often, but we still don't know a thing about them, how can we honestly like them? The mysterious child seems like a forced plot point to make the story seem to go somewhere when in reality it likely isn't going anywhere at all.

The one thing I don't like so far is the character personalities. They seem to all be weak and flawed with little to like about them. I get that this is the point of wanting them to use familiars to get revenge, but it just doesn't appeal. Maybe in a few episodes they will introduce better characters.

One thing I note about the show's plot is that Japanese culture plays a heavy role in how the viewer is supposed to feel. In the first episode we see a bullied school student who wants to get back at her enemies. While most might think it's an odd and childish story, some can relate to feeling trapped. There's also some lost in translation remarks that make scenes lose their impact. In the second episode a lot of people are very confused about why it ended the way it did. I think this has to do with the superstitious beliefs of the Japanese. From what I hear they're very open with death, sometimes trivializing the afterlife as an inconsequential event. I think this explains the ending in a way that we can at least sort of understand. Very strange stories, but I think that's because there's a heavy Japanese influence that foreign audiences might not grasp right away.

Episode 3

Wow, that was a really fucked up family. The one I felt bad about the most is Arina...poor kid, she was so helpless in all this drama.

The nephew was not "sensitive". Straight up, he is psychotic. Glad punishments were carried out.
What a crazy episode.

I always had the same general issue with Jigoku Shoujo that I did with Warau Salesman (original, and remake) in that they are a bit too formulaic. I understand that episode structure is appealing to some, but I could never really get into it, even after three seasons. Kinda disappointed they made a fourth that I'll have to watch.

That was a bit too far-fetched even for Hell Girl.
