This problem began with Gintama Episode 286, and is still present up to at least Gintama Episode 292 (SUB). Certain lines of dialogue which can be clearly heard do not have any subtitles. For example at around 13:52 in episode 292 of Gintama, a sentence being spoken by Kyuubei is subtitled at the end of the sentence, but the beginning has no subtitles, she simply is talking without anything on the screen to indicate what she is saying.

I posted this on the Sony Gaming Platforms forum because the same episode shows the same subtitle perfectly when I watch it on the website through my web browser. Please view the attached pictures to see that the same line of dialogue that is missing from the PS4 crunchyroll app is present on the website.

As I said before, I've noticed this since episode 286 of Gintama (SUB), but it's been such a rare occurrence that I ignored it until now. It may be worth noting that I haven't had this problem with any other show, and the same lines of dialogue are always missing regardless of whether I reload the episode or the app itself.

I have the latest version of Crunchyroll (1.27) downloaded on my PS4.

UPDATE: I've noticed that sometimes when this happens, the subtitles will show up on the screen for a split second, but not nearly long enough to read unless you have a photographic memory.

Bumping this: I'm still having this issue all the way to episode 304 of Gintama. Now that it's in the middle of a serious arc, it's becoming very frustrating not being able to read the subtitles. Any indication that someone is working on this, or at the very least, acknowledging this problem, would be greatly appreciated!

I've had similar problems with Charlotte. It only happens with one character: Tomori. Since it's just the one character I surmised it was just an oversight by the editor. Or they didn't have someone to properly translate her lines and decided to just run it. Either way, it's frustrating. It didn't occur to me that it might be the PS4 app itself, since just the one character. I will login with my computer to check. Hopefully support will get back to you with an answer.

UPDATE: TWEEK345 I have not tried this yet. Maybe it can help with your issue.

Hi there,

Thanks so much for emailing back in. And sorry for Eccentric Family video issues you were experiencing. Here are a few steps to follow if it ever happens to you again!

Because the servers for various devices are all located in different parts of the country sometimes it's a matter of pointing to the right DNS server.
So let's see if changing your router's DNS will help. You’ll find complete instructions on how to change your DNS by using OpenDNS.com's all-encompassing guide (https://store.opendns.com/setup/#/). I'd try this first, as their servers are only in the USA and Europe. If this doesn't seem to help, you can try Google's Public DNS (https://developers.google.com/speed/public-dns).

This DNS change seems to work well with ongoing video problems.

If you're still having problems after you've changed your DNS, I recommend linking your Crunchyroll account to VRV (http://vrv.co) and see if you're able to watch the same show from there.

Let me know how all this works for you!

Regards,

Robert

I'm having the same problem on Fate/Kaleid s2. Guess I'll try the above fix? But I don't remember having this happen on crunchyroll before.

I've been watching Yona of the Dawn this past week and have been noticing complete lines of dialogue missing.
