Both those were very long running shows that required a lot of filler to keep airing week to week each year.

I expect the Black Clover adaption would be a limited run, and thus more like Tegami Bachi (Letter Bee), which was also done by Peirrot.

Just read the synopsis for this. It sounds interesting! I look forward to it. Hopefully, they present it well.

I don't think this announcement has anything to do with it. The only exclusives that Amazon gets are shows held by Sentai and those on the noitaminA block. Plus, I believe TV Tokyo is an investor in Crunchyroll.

I am aware of this (though I'd forgotten about the TV Tokyo thing), but I don't understand the point you're making about Amazon and Sentai; if it wasn't TV Tokyo, then what would stop Sentai from grabbing the license?

Anyway, even if not to /block/ Amazon from getting the licenses, I still think CR will start announcing more big licenses early on, if only to get the hype going more for shows on CR rather than just letting hype build for specific shows and then have said hype collapse for a lot of people when they discover it'll be on Amazon (hopefully that made sense lol)

One problem with that is the number of people that will forget announcements like this one and the one for The Ancient Magus' Bride were even made. I've seen CR announce a show only a few weeks early, but there were still people asking if CR would get it when the simulcast announcements began in earnest.

Also, this isn't going to prevent the "hype collapse" you speak of. If CR doesn't announce a show early, that doesn't mean people won't expect CR might get it, unless there is reason to believe otherwise (i.e., from one of the two blocks Amazon now has exclusive rights to, or a sequel to a show Sentai licensed).

Amazon also gets Animeism shows exclusive now (Baha and Altair this season) and they've gone out of their way for other shows like Re:Creators and Welcome to the Ballroom which have nothing to do with Sentai or a block they have exclusivity for.

I know it's a bad design by Pierrot. they just are not a good studio company . Black Clover is a shonen and it's ongoing so it may be a long running series which mean Peirrot see dollar signs and will go filler crazy and throw out half assed animation with even worse story for weeks.

My point is if they get to that point then it would better in the hand of Toei while I don't particulary like them the One Peice were so much less awful to see than Naruto and especially Bleach. I also never minded the DBZ fillers like Garlic or Afterworld Tournament.

I see I did not think this line of argument through enough, I hadn't considered those points.

I am not privy to how exactly these deals work however, I'm not really sure that announcing a fall show early has anything to do with getting the jump on Amazon. From what I've read on these forums and on other sites, Amazon pretty much can outbid Crunchyroll at any time. I would think that the negotiations for fall shows have been underway for some time already.

I am happy that there is a bit of competition for Crunchyroll in the absence of Funimation, as it will encourage them to actually provide and maintain a quality platform.

Haven't kept up in awhile, but is this that manga that was like a straight clone of the whole Sasuke/Naruto relationship?

It better be better than Kiznaviar (or however that one is called). They super-hyped that one up last year and it was just awful.
