Where is Symphogear AXZ?

Three weeks into Summer and still nothing with only a single TBD left on Crunchyroll's lineup page (Although I'm fairly sure that's for "The Reflection" which starts near the end of July)

Why was Symphogear AXZ not picked up?

Crunchyroll grabbed ALL THREEE Symphogear seasons a week after GX started airing. They WANTED to get in on the Symphogear hype train. Plus GX was the highest selling anime in Japan from Summer 2015.

So where is Symphogear AXZ?

It should have been the flag ship of Crunchyroll's "Look at our Summer 2017 lineup"

Instead they failed to secure it and now there are no legal places to watch it at all.

Again and again western fans of Symphogear get shafted for just trying to support a series we love more than anything.

ZERO merchandise to buy for Symphogear from Crunchyroll's store at this point in time. Not even the CDs when the music is ridiculously important to Symphogear. No posters. No dvds. No figures (anymore). Nothing.

And now we can't even support the newest season (and probably season 5 too which sucks even more) through the company who claims to have supporting the anime industry as their main goal.

We're forced to wait for fansubs with no guarantee that they'll even actually be made.

Knowing that subs for GX would be there every time (even if a few episodes were delayed slightly) and that I'm supporting the series was one of the highlights of my Summer 2015.

Now for Summer 2017 I have a pain in my stomach every time I'm forced to a fan sub without supporting the series and not knowing when that fan sub will be released (if at all)

Good job on your failure this season Crunchyroll.

As much as I would love to shit on CR for any reason, I'm sure getting the licence to stream isn't always so straightforward. I'm sure someone else will probably come in with details or a better explanation, but my point is simply not to play the blame game if they don't acquire the licence for something, because there could be a whole bunch of legality reasons or something. I remember when Dog Days season three was only available in one region for whatever reason, but I'm sure that wasn't ideal situation for CR. It's not always the case of CR saying "I want that. Here's your money," and then getting exactly what they want.

I'm wondering the same thing. CR did get GX when 3 episodes were out, so I really hope they'll get AXZ very soon. I don't want to wait 2 days for fansubs. >:

Seems like it is unlicensed which is quite strange considering how you can watch the other seasons. Well best of wishes to the fan subbing community's efforts I suppose.

You'd think it would either be in the CR/Funimation group, Amazon Strike or Netflix. My gut feeling is that they wanted far too much $ for licensing rights and nobody wanted to pay it

It's just strange for a show like this to not be picked up after it's notoriety in Japan, and even outside thanks to CR picking seasons 1-3 last year. Unless it's about the money or the license. You would think it'd be simple to pick up considering they were able to negotiate seasons 1-3 and that should give them an in to nab AXZ. But it doesn't always work like that.

I, for one, am disappointed, but I don't know where to point the finger without hearing all the details. I had hoped this would be simple and we could say good bye to unlicensed shows, but I guess not yet. Hopefully CR can still get it even if its later on (don't let amazon get this, please).

For now, thanks to the fansubbing community. Even if releases take a long time, we've been here before, and these guys always pull through for us.

I'm a bit angry at Crunchyroll. Rationally, I know that it's not their fault.
The problem for, me, though, if that it doesn't matter whether or not it's their fault. It's still their loss.

I've been needing to save money where I can in the past year or so and with Crunchyroll just not getting the shows I wanted - or not getting UK rights * - I've simply found that i'm barely watching CR at all so I dropped Premium. Twice!
(I resubbed for three months a while back, realised I still wasn't watching, cancelled again and didn't miss it)

This season had a few interesting titles come up but Symphogear was the key one for me. A show that would get me into the habit of watching things weekly, at which point i'd find myself watching other shows.
For the past few seasons, I've found Crunchyroll had a lot of the "I'll watch those as well" titles but lacked the ones to really hook me in. But with CR having the three previous Symphogear outings, I thought there was a real chance for them to actually have that hook this season.

Symphogear AXZ was to be the show that brought me back into being a paid subscriber. Instead, I'm back to fansubs.
And when I say "back", I mean it's been well over a year since I've relied on them for a series. Because in recent years, if a show hasn't been available legally I've felt less inclined to go out of my way to find an alternative source.

And yes, the show is nearly everything I wanted it to be. The only thing it lacks is an official English language outlet.

Amen to that.

I personally still have and will keep my premium because I watch so many shows (and non-paying Canadians get absolutely fucked more than anyone else)

But I'm glad people like you are speaking with their wallets. Crunchryoll has to know how much they're losing by not having Symphogear AXZ

Would be nice if CR had the character song of Symphogear but it's not critical (it is available from other sellers).

What I do want is the season to be streamed here... Hell, I would still be happy if Netflix picks it up actually. I would be livid if Anime Strike gets it (I don't want to pay for the overpriced bullshit that is Amazon prime and while prime video is now available in the frozen land of Can'tada, Anime strike apparently is not).

Good question! who knows?

I think it just might be hard getting all the music right issues settled out..

Mabye it will show up here at some point mabye not. I'm sure they know it very popular..

But they might not get it at all.. It's hard to say.

I like it to be I'm a huge fan.

Maybe it's too expensive for them. If they were going to bring it out, even if it was going to be delayed they'd still announce to build up demand.
It's a shame because some Symphogear would really give some help to an otherwise dull summer season.

Netflix almost certainly would not be interested in Symphogear outside of Japan, the songs pretty much make it impossible to dub and one of Netflix's business pillars is language support.

At this point I've given up on Crunchyroll getting the license, I expect that the last announcement on the Summer list is The Reflection this Friday.

one theory I heard from a friend who runs an anime news blog and follows allot of the background industry information is simply music licencing is more difficult to obtain than subs for the show itself meaning that CR would need to have two licenses for the show in order to sub both the show as well as the song lyrics and as anyone who has watched sympogear before knows song lyric subs are important to the story.

The only thing keeping me holding on to hope is that CR still has one show left to announce for this season. It may just be that negotiating for the show hasn't gone as planned.

Until then I'm going to watch the show elsewhere because I have no legal options.

I'm holding out a bit longer before waiting for fan subs personally, my guess is negotiations are taking longer than planed (wanna say last season was 3 weeks in before they announced it if I remember correctly) biggest issue is as I said before licensing for lyrics if you noticed most shows even idol anime don't have translated subs for the lyrics however the lyrics are actually story relevant in symphogear meaning CR has to negotiate not only with the anime studio but also the music production company.
