we should call people people and eliminate all race and gender classifications and remove all race or gender questions from every form. i currently refuse to check a race box on any form unless i am forced to and then i choose other and leave the clarification line blank. if i could leave gender blank i would also do that.

why? i find the whole thing racist and sexist. why should my race or gender matter?

This except actually not really because race and sex matter for biological/medical reasons.

We just need to remove all this weird ass "pride" garbage. You should be proud of who you have grown to become, what you stand for, and your general character as opposed to what you just happened to be born with.

To be honest, I've always felt more comfortable being called African-American as oppose to being called Black because it just sounds better.
But this is pertaining to what I rather call myself not what other people call me.

In all honesty, things like this shouldn't really matter because at the end of the day we're all human.

I find it funny that sometimes when I use the word "black" online someone tries to correct it to "African American" as if the only black people exist in the USA. I refer to people as people first, only if there is a scenario where description matters do I bring up racial description. It's up to each individual person to decided how they wish to be referred to as.

Diamond and Silk were posting pro-trump youtube videos all throughout the election.

Trump/supporting Trump has nothing to do with what we should call Americans.

all roads will lead to Trump now a day and if you are not with HER -- you are a trump supporter.

like one of their new slogans-- " she persisted we resisted " You are either with the left or right. there's no such thing as being in the middle/neutral in this war.

as for the topic, there are Asian Americans, Native Americans, etc.. we have people from various race/ethnicity so if you want to be specific...

"African-American" is a self-identified term used to promote solidarity within the African-American community. If someone doesn't want to have that label, they can feel free to drop it and tell others not to use it with them. If they do want to keep it, I don't see what's wrong with it.

If you want to call yourself a "European-American," go wild. Just know that most people won't think of that as a point of pride.

Yes....because being proud to be european aka white is racist. Right, not pride

I understand you're fed up with whatever is going on in your life, but it's not doing you any favours carrying that chip on your shoulder into GD all the time. =/

what do you mean? every European is proud to be European doesn't make them racist, although few are blind to the privilege they have over other races in America but this doesn't make them racist it just highlights the prejudice in our country

Should we be calling black Americans African-Americans? Most of them are about as African as I am European and I don't have anyone calling me a European-American. People just call me American or Machamp.

"African-American" is one of the most demeaning terms that people think is proper to say. It's ridiculous. Africa is a huge continent with multiple countries, multiple cultures, and multiple languages. It's not all the same. Plus not all black people in this country are "African-American" some are Jamaican, some are from Brazil, some are from Europe, etc... If you are black and you are a citizen of this country you are an American that happens to be black. There is no hyphen involved.

I'm black.

They been on the news.... and they are still making videos.. even if youtube keeps throwing them into limbo because being republican makes it so your opinions don't count.

Guess America is different to Australia but i've never heard the term "African Australian" But yeah different circumstances and we never had the whole slave thing and it's only been in fairly recent times that we've had large numbers of Africans here and they're actual Africans.
And there certainly is no term "Aboriginal Australian".

From reading the other comments, i can admit and honestly say that i dont really consider non whites to be "Australians" even though if they were born here then of course they are.
Even with Asians and Europeans that have been here for generations and born here and are fairly Australianised or westernised you dont really think of them when you hear the terms "Aussie" or "Australian"
There is a saying "spot the Aussie" basically meaning spot the white person because it is so multi cultural here. But it wasn't always and it happened rapidly.

Anyways by that i dont mean i think less of non white people or that they dont deserve to be here or anything like that, in the Olympics heaps of non whites represent Australia but yeah you dont say "Asian Australia" or "Muslim Australian" or anything and really we're all Australian.
I dont even consider white English people whom are Australian citizens as an actual Aussie. lol

I imagine that many black Americans would happily and proudly identify as "African American" but i guess everyone is different.

Come to think of it, i dont really think anywhere else in the world dose somebody get described as both their race or original place of origin/ancestry and their host nation?
If anything people may be described as of African appearance or of Asian appearance or Cacasian, etc.

Dunno. I assume more people would not care or be offended as opposed to those that do/are?
