The first episode is now up: http://www.crunchyroll.com/the-reflection/episode-1-ceremony-743529

Episode 1

That animation style, it definitely looks like something made for America as Stan Lee had a huge role in creating this. True to the show's name, it's pretty light on dialogue as it's mostly action, and something that looks back at Lee's career. But the Reflection refers to something that happened three years ago that resulted in humans gaining superpowers. This show is definitely something out of the ordinary when it comes to anime and it's pretty easy to see why.

Eh....this felt like reading a comic book except it's animated. Very Westernish. It's going to take a lot of time to get used to the animation style.

Superpower heroes in a series although I find the main characters too mysterious. The plot felt like it was all over the place as well. Going to give this a few more episodes. It's noticable that the episode takes place in US, New York.

Felt like there was a layer (or several) of shading/lightning that was turned off. The animation style is odd but I'll get used to it eventually. The coloring was somewhat basic. Hope they spice it up in future episodes. It was neat to see some locations in the U.S.

Not much to say. Going to watch a few more episodes to get a feel for this show. Curious if Funimation is planning a dub on this.

Funimation will be streaming the dub of this, but the question is if they are going to dub it themselves or if it is going to be handled by POW themselves (which means they use a studio in LA instead of going to Dallas). In any case, Funimation will be streaming the dub.

Not gonna defend this. The animation style is low quality maybe their budget only allowed them to do that. Hero man the animation was pretty nice quality I wish the reflection quality was comparable to hero man. The story was not fluid from the fighting, to the sudden uses of powers (reporter), her just following heroes, the capture of heroes to their escape. Shit was all over the place.

POW!! I guess that there will be people that like this, but my first impression was that someone was watching too much of the old Batman TV series with Adam West.

It looked as if they had just coloured the animatic and called it a day. It's one thing claiming a minimalist stylistic choice, but the sound design and screen composition were equally below average throughout.

I just found myself waiting for this to end so I could watch Hero Aca instead.

I dropped it after 4 minutes, those beginning action scenes were just too weird.

wow this was beyond what I expected. I could live with the minimalist art style but the characters looked like wet noodles hitting each other and the sound design gave them no weight either. It looked like something that would have been made back in the late 70s in the US for children.

The art style was unique and sort of interesting, but almost all of the rest of it was just not good. The sound design and cinematography were all over the place, the dialogue was terrible and the character designs themselves were at best mediocre (and at worst terrible). I had fairly high hopes for this and still think it might pull back up but it's pretty directly on pace right now for worst of the season.

Okay, seems like I'm an outlier here. I love the way it looks! I might even keep watching just for that.

Plus, I'm interested in the story and characters too. I'll have to wait and see about it, but there was enough there for me to think this could keep my interest.

I think it was pretty obvious they were trying for old style retro comic look and feel to the anime, not only with the art but with the superheroes and villains as well. While I like the concept, I think (for whatever reason it may be) they went too far, and just ends up looking like a less than well thought out concept. Add to that the storytelling was choppy and all over the place, and you don't really have a good first impression. Story-wise I felt like they were trying to cram much too much into this episode. Even with the dodgy art and over-the-top cartoonish characters, had the story been more streamlined, perhaps just taking the time to focus on the girl and given us more of her past and details of what happened, and waited with the other fight until next episode, we would be far more likely to stay hooked.
