I don't know what the big deal is. The wasps add protein.

Don't care, I'm still gonna pick them off trees when I see them while I'm walking around if those damn birds haven't already beaten me to it. On another note I don't see how eating insects in this context is all that disgusting when you remove the cultural meme that insects are "ewwie".

^ This. Absolutely nothing in wasps that is physically harmful to humans or any less nutritious than other animal products, so who cares?

Lerned this at a convention. femal fruit flys only go after female figs. but fig growers dront care to seperate the fruit so in every batch of fig netons there about 1-2 chopped up bits of flys larva and eggs its where you get that 2grams of protein.

This logic screams at me. That unwelcomed crunchy flavor in figs is utterly suspect.

Figs are permitted by the FDA to have up to 10% of fruits insect-infested, so long as there are 13 or fewer insect heads per gram of processed fruit.

That's about 350 per ounce.

That said, Nabisco Fig Newtons average less than a quarter of that according to independent analysis, while store- and off-brand varieties exceed it as often as not.

In other words, just buy the name brand.

And for those who care, the official Jewish position on the subject is that fig products are still kosher if you can't actually see the insect parts. Even if you know that statistically, they're still in there.

Embrace the crunch, it embiggens you.

Also extra protein FTW...

Without fig wasps, we would have no figs.

I've never ate them anyway, so it doesn't bother me. But hey, extra protein I guess?
