Yes, it has Naruto, Hunter x Hunter, Dragon Ball, etc.

It is largely aimed at young boys. There is no Maken Ki or Grimoire of Zero here.

Maken Ki is on Funimation's site . They have a larger selection of adult titles & uncensored . When the Blu-ray version is out , they make it available to premium members , unlike here . Crunchy just moves on to the next flavor of the minuet .

I feel like I'm at a point where I need to search really deep for good animes yet it's near impossible due to the fact that everything is rated 5*.
Even for shows where people openly admit the anime wasn't that good, they will still rate the show 3-5*. This translates to positively skewed ratings on all these garbage shows.

Most people tend to use the five and one stars as like/dislike buttons. (That's why Netflix got rid of star ratings.) Since people tend to seek out shows they'll like, the ratings skew towards five stars.

I find people on Crunchy almost always give good and honest reviews, just look at Akashic Records and Asterisk War, it's overwhelmingly popular show like AoT that always get 5 stars (but that might be for a reason?)

I'm starting to feel like yes. 95% of anime's and the future ones are and will be meant for children and young teenagers(13-14).

Please do convince me otherwise.

Submitting this season's JST airing schedule as evidence for target demographics.

7-9am are morning cartoons, 5-6pm are popular shounen/shoujo (including Boruto, Academia 2).
7-11pm we start seeing "adult" content (Yuri NTR, Kakegurui, Vatican, etc.).
11pm to 4am are your late night time blocks; these are bought and generate little revenue (no ads, etc.).

Especially for late night anime to generate revenue they need to target a demographic with enough spending money to keep them out of the red. While they can definitely be accessible to younger viewers (many shounen sports anime air in the middle of the night, for example) they are very reliant on a spending adult viewer demographic to not fail.

As to why these shows appeal to adults, that comes down to a larger breakdown of available media. My understanding is the "adult" type content is more often live action, while anime is more about having a pocket of time free from that kind of stress. And since we only watch anime, we only see a small slice of the overall media consumption pie.

Anime revenue streams (wide):

Notice how anime doesn't survive by people watching anime, or buying anime, or internet sites licensing anime; they survive by people buying anime products (or gamgling for them--aka pachinko). You could watch a great drama and enjoy it, and maybe even buy it. But are you going to buy merchandise for it? Anime needs you to.

tl;dr This means the more "adult" your anime gets the faster that market gets saturated, because you're not going to have the broad appeal of a more relaxed or accessible series. So you can make a few a year essentially, but you can't support an entire anime industry making only hardboiled grit, simply because it won't be solvent.

You're completely right. Anime is all targeted towards children and the world is slowly collapsing into apocalyptic chaos. Doom and gloom everywhere to be seen. Abandon all hope.

Anything else you might want to hear?

No.

Go watch Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinju or something. I didn't like it, but I'm a kid. Everybody else I've heard talk about it loves it. Or, you know, actually just do some research, and find the more mature shows yourself.

For better or worse, Amazon got there first (except for the movies).

- Classroom of the Elite
- Saga of Tanya the Evil
- Great Teacher Onizuka
- Ace Attorney
- Re:Zero
- Myself; Yourself
- White Album 2

You should always search deeper for shows unless you don't care and are just after 'something'. You will find it much more rewarding too when you find something you like instead of just watching it because you want to follow the community.

I also never really get why people take ratings so seriously. Taste is so different person to person. Unless you find a person who has the exact same taste as you all ratings and reviews are pointless. If I ever go near reviews I only keyword scan. I can't scan for words in video reviews so I don't touch them.
Does the show have this 'Good list of words' or 'Bad list words'.

I may like X show when everyone else may hate it. Also the other way around. Taste has no right or wrong answers.

Sites like Anime news network (I guess my anime list to but I haven't used it.) have way better systems of searching then just genres and what is popular.

Lets say you really really like Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood.

Which lists the following
Genres: adventure, comedy, drama, fantasy, thriller
Themes: alchemy, conspiracy, Homunculi, military, steampunk, tragedy

You then search http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/search/genre for similar genres and or themes.

Then spend several mins going though whatever shows up page as to where you can find the shows CR Hidive etc. it's better then going hmm what is highly rated well that was meh after watching X amount of the show mins or episodes wise.

But as others say CR can't get what isn't made and some anime types are generally more common then others due to how the industry is funded.

Some, but definitely not all.

There's no way I'd ever let any future children of mine have free, unsupervised access to crunchyroll. No telling what sort of stuff they might get into. Not only are there a number of hentai and overly ecchi shows that I myself as an adult won't ever watch, but there are also quite a number of ones that I wouldn't really want them watching until they are in their teens and better able to handle and understand some of the stuff in them.

It is true that there are a number of shows on crunchyroll that are specifically geared towards younger demographics, and there are a lot more ones that are geared more towards the teen and young adult demographic (many of which could certainly be enjoyable for older adults too).

Although not as many, there are a few too that are non-hentai but geared specifically towards adults, although some more mature younger folks may enjoy them as well. As other people have said, it seems to be the case that there are just not as many of these around, rather than crunchyroll ignoring them.
