You can still play them just fine but flash will no longer be upgraded or supported.

That means no bug fixes, no improvements, no security patches, ect.

Other programs will take the place of flash and future "flash games" will likely start to move to those programs as well. But as for old stuff it will still work with existing flash programs. Although it might become harder to find flash if Adobe stops offering the download on their site.

For example sites like Crunchyroll will likely move to HTML5 are eventually abandon Flash. Most sites already offter HTML5 players as an option and only allow you to switch to flash if you're having issues with it.

I wonder if flash games could be reworked to work with the HTML5 player or if they'd need a new add on program to run?

Anyone remember similar pop-ups flooding their screen back in the early 2000s? I certainly had those problems, I had to close out the window.
Then we have this bloody nonsense that curses Chrome users.

I would be happy if all of my games would get rid of AFP/Shockwave.

Oh well! hopefully, there will be HTML5 in every streaming site and Photoshop won't last forever. Raw Therapee, Darktable, Drawplus, GIMP are the future of photo editing.

I don't know about all that. Photoshop is much more than photo editing software. I expect Adobe to remain a strong player with its software lineup.

Does anything use shockwave anymore? I'm not even sure if I have that installed on my current computer since I haven't seen anything use that in years.

Flash was killed by a bandwagon.

Things made in Flash 20 years ago still work now. Things in HTML 5 can die a year later if chrome updates the way that it handles javascript. Adverts in HTML 5 are more intrusive, more resource intensive and overall just worse than they ever were in flash. It had security issues for a while but they all got fixed, just like security issues for windows or internet browsers. That was all just a big meme and too many people fell for it.

There is no viable replacement for flash. Everything made to replace it is crap. Now people are just switching for the sake of switching. Flash didn't get the support it needed in it's later years. Now we lose all it's history because people were convinced it was bad. we're going to miss flash. we're going to miss all the old flash games we used to play and until now you could always go back to them. Now we have to hope that we can get the tools to emulate them.

Flash shouldn't have died.

Facebook says that it will help game developers on its platform migrate to open web standards.

Well it seems Facebook got that covered. Not sure about those Flash standalone games though; with no more security updates and such.

How does the Crunchyroll app on iOS and Android even work?
Since Flash was banned there already years ago, it does need HTML5 right?

I read someting about that there is a "HTML5 beta" for the browser - is that true?

@Crunchyroll
You need to react NOW! Change to HTML5, there is no excuse not to!
Also freaking use a secure HTTPS connection!
We are paying money, we are not going to see advertisement.
Thus you don't even have a problem with Ad-partners who don't use HTTPS
It's just you using HTTPS everywhere and stop using 3rd party scripts (at least without HTTPS)

In general stop using 3rd party scripts for advertisement and analytics
We pay you money to not have that shit!
I am using a scriptblocker anyway, but most people are not!

{snark on}Well that would be on the developers to update them, let's hope they get right on that. {/snark off} No really old flash games while fun can go the way of Flash to the grave, Flash is a bloated pig that is a welcome mat to hackers. I for one am happy to see it die.

The same way you can still use Windows XP when support for it is dead, you can also use flash even though support for it is dead.

I've heard of some petitions trying to make Adobe Flash become open-source. I really hope that they actually listen to those petitions before it's too late. https://github.com/pakastin/open-source-flash Hey, it worked for MS Paint so it could work for Adobe Flash.
Glad that I have Pale Moon just in case Firefox ditches Flash.
