Its looking more and more likely that they are real even the Vatican has been slowly changing there views on this subjected saying that god created many children including man or something like that I don't exactly remember what but since at least the early 90s the church has not only been changing there views on alien life but they been investing a lot in infrared telescopes and radio telescopes. Scientist want to multiply the drake equation results by 100 now so it looks like the universe may be more crowed than originally thought.

It could advance depending on what sort of discoveries would be made together with this proof, and maybe it would completely change the way science is portrayed in society toward better.
But what I meant by 'change' was more like people who were borderline sceptical or denying various scientific facts and theories would get so loud and they would drag so many more along with them. Works of people like Darwin and many other in similar fields would get trashed so much and deemed worthless and probably even heretical. Conspiracy theorists' heaven would become reality. You can observe similar in politics. It is so easy to shift people from left to right and right to left. After WW2, Europe was mostly leaning left, now one immigrant crisis later and right wing got an incredible push and lots of countries shifted very fast.
This just proves how easily people's minds can change and if you feed those people with things like: "Scientists were lying to you all along and didn't want you to know about aliens", then you can imagine what happens next

S-s-senpai, why you do dis

Darwin's discoveries and the theory of evolution would be unchanged. If aliens seeded earth then evolution still happens, it just does so with seeded life instead of naturally arising life.

Conspiracy theorists would still be wingnuts. You're probably right and they would be louder and get some more followers, but the conspiracy part would still be lunacy as there's no World Government conspiracy hiding the fact, it's just discovered (in the OP). I can't imagine they'd get any more relevant, unless this shocked them back into sanity.

The Left to Right political swing has been generations in the build up. Trump and Brexit are reactions to the Left's control over Western society to the point where the common person is being negatively affected. If the politics, media and educational systems were more intellectually diverse we wouldn't HAVE a migrant crises. You only get such self-serving stupidity from an elite that is certain it can't be wrong or held to account by the populace.

"Scientists were lying to you all along and didn't want you to know about aliens" - This is a very shrewd observation, I would fully expect headlines like that in the conspiracy magazines. It won't make a lot of difference though unless ALL the scientists act like they're hiding something and I really don't expect that to happen unless there is a World Government Conspiracy. Punch a Nazi? No, punch an Illuminati!!

Well I kind of hate to break it to you, but the chance of us meeting them are very slim. We would honestly be just too different to understand each other. We face difficulties understanding other humans who speak a different language, imagine how it would be with alien beings? Also, the universe is constantly expanding at a very huge rate, so that basically means we're getting further and further away from each other. I DO BELIEVE they are out there, but there are also many theories about why we haven't met them. One of them being that they probably destroyed themselves or gone extinct, that every species goes through this stage. Ever hear of the saying that, the most intelligent people are the most evil? Us humans are a very good example of that, sure, we do care for other species, we even take precautions so that way we don't infect other worlds too. If we met a species, we would probably end up studying it for a long time, then try to dominate it. Another possibility is that we are alone, that we may be the first or at least the most advanced beings in the universe. Keep in mind, that I said, it's just a possibility. The most interesting theory is that humans might not even be from Earth ourselves, because we get burn't and get cancer from being in the sun too long, our babies can't walk from birth like every single other animal on this planet, we get constant back pain, probably due to the high gravity here, this theory also says we actually might be from Mars and we lost our technology when we came here, lost our knowledge and everything. That's why we're dumb I suppose. To support this theory, someone must know something because everyone on this planet seems to be in a rush to get to Mars like its a f*cking holiday destination. Who knows? if we are from Mars, we might find out lost technology or at least find out what happened to us there, IF WE ARE from there. If. Keep that in mind. IF we are.

In the scenario that alien life does exist, and they were more than technology advanced enough to come to earth and assist us here and there. I wouldn't really care how much they have affected human history, I would want to know who precisely their enemies are.

There was a calculation done positing that if we assume that a civilization with our technological level arose at the earliest possible point after the Big Bang, and they spread from star to star at speeds well below the speed of light, Earth would have been visited long before life arose.

Aliens with technology billions of years more advanced than ours would probably be impossible for human beings to detect.

Sure, maybe we'd be too different. But how can you know about how similar or different a lifeform from somewhere else in our universe would or could be when there is no precedent? You speak with such finality on the matter.

The theory that we aren't from Earth for the reasons you stated isn't interesting, it's BS. I had a large dog and he had problems with his hips as many dogs of his size do when they get older. Oh snap, his body wasn't perfectly suited to his environment, dogs are obviously from space where they evolved to adapt to an environment different from Earth.

Oh crap, lifeforms die on Earth. We aren't perfectly adapted to our environment such that we go on living forever. Obviously from space.

This 'theory' you describe follows the same logic as the sarcastic claims I made about my dog and the fact that living things on earth die.

It's a contrivance to make us being from Mars seem conceivable so that you can get goosebumps and be like "Wow, ain't that special?"

I'm pretty sure we have a hard on for mars because it is the closest planet we could conceivably land on and walk around on. People want to explore and understand our world. We do have a track record of doing so. What is the more likely explanation?

Billions of years?

Do you know the general consensus is the universe is around 14 billion years old, right?

Random question I know but how would you feel if it was proven that aliens were real and that they have helped build civilizations throughout history and monuments like the pyramids and stone hedge

Star Gate was pretty sweet so I guess I'd feel the same way about that

That being said, it would be really weird if aliens don't exist considering how big the universe is.
The funny thing is, is that if the closest aliens are further away than us than a distance we would actually reach traveling light speed and it turns out we can't travel faster than that there is a decent probability that we will never be able to get in contact with aliens and vice versa. Who knows might be for the best hmmm

Surprised no one has brought up the Fermi paradox yet, but if aliens do exist out there, why do we always presume them to be more advanced than us? Maybe they are at the same level of technological advancement as us, or even behind or have none at all? what if Humanity is the apex species in the universe, if so, I'd find that very depressing.
